SOUTH AFRICA: Hippopotamus Hunt With Pawprint Safaris 2017

@CAustin sorry you did not connect with the Hippo. It's probably my low iq & reading comprehension.... but did I read that the 375 H&H dropped 6" from
100 to 170 yards.... and still significantly went lower? Wow! That is a big drop.... I would have never guessed or suspected that kind of fall.

That's sux you didn't bring down the hippo lips everyone was curious to read about. However, I doubt this will be your last trip on the delta 200/201.

Charlie thanks for the write up and sorry you didn't connect. Better luck next time though.

I am curious if you're wishing you'd have taken your trusty old 416 Ruger? Although if you really expected to shoot him in the water, I can see the logic in taking the 375 single shot;)

It will be interesting to see of you go back for hippo or get tempted by leopard again? Or maybe some other large or toothy critter???

I probably didn't explain myself well. The 375 round I was using drops about 6" from 100 yards to 200 yards. So I was guessing at 170 it was going to be something like 3.5 inches. It evidently was 5 inches.
And you are correct sir Delta 200 will see me again!

Thanks. Bob! I wish I had nailed the big fella but it's hunting. If tags are available for Spots I will go for him....but you can bet I am determined to get a hippo!

Charlie, sorry you didn't get to try hippo lips.... We know you will be back for revenge.

Still sounds as though you had a wonderful safari. Hippo hunting is a true waiting game. I have sat for hours and days on islands in the Zambezi for the right shot.

dont anybody worry about charlie going back,he is craving the thought of sinking his teeth into those hippo lips and thats a fact you can bet the farm on.

Sure would be nice to go in and fave him with a slightly used double!!:)

Great report Charlie, great attitude, it really is all about the hunt.

This report has me itching to plan a Hippo hunt. Some of the best hunts Ive had are when I didn't come away with my prize, as that made me train harder and want it so much more then next time around.

@CAustin Super write up. I like how you did it in segments and kept us all hanging. Shame about not getting the hippo but you know what to expect next time. Mind you with Africa there's never any saying what happens. Maybe we should pair up and go after them!? Try and put a good dent in the population

I like the way you think sir!

Besides having large angry river horses on one side of the reeds this python also kept us on our toes!

Pieter's lodge is warm and comfortable. The cook does great things with the game meat taken during your hunt! No hippo lips were offered during my stay.

My aim was dead on with this guy one afternoon!

And it sure was nice to visit an old friend every night!

Congrats on the nice impala!

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
