SOUTH AFRICA: Hippopotamus Hunt With Pawprint Safaris 2017

ok charlie, im not going to croak until you get that hippo, and probably not even then.so there!

If I had your double, that you need to put in the will for me, I would have taken a chance at the waters edge on day one. So if you want to go ahead and give me the Wal Mart inheritance early go ahead and box up the Sabatti. I will forward my FFL info.
Ha!

Sounds like you had a great Hunt. The next question is when is next year's safari so I can start planning next year's vacation.

I did Art. No complaints from me! Would love to share camp with you and your dad. We need to get him the buffalo!

Glad the experience met your personal hunting expectations Charlie.

Great write up Charlie! I enjoyed every minute, thank you for "taking us along" :)
It sounds like a great hunt and I can tell you really enjoyed it. Just goes to show that great hunts don't always have to end with a trophy! True hunting (y)
Best wishes for next time!

Sounds like a great hunt, thanks for sharing and look forward to round 2

Glad you had a good time, but sorry to hear no hippo! When is the next trip???

@IdaRam that's it in a nut shell really. I have taken five safaris now and always come back with the trophies I went after! Three of the big five and lots of others. This was a humbling experience. I'm a good shot normally but this time I was not good enough!

Great write up Charlie. I, like everyone else waited for your report updates. We all hoped that next installment was accompanied by a photo of a hippo. Sounds like you gave it your best but it was just not to be this time round. Always next time though.

Thanks for the ride Charlie but I'm still waiting for verdict on hippo lips you'll tell me next time. Cheers
Jacques

Great report Charlie, you had me reading very quickly. Tough hunt for sure. Sorry the river horse got the best of the hunt.

i cant wait charlie.

Thanks for the report. Sorry you didn't connect. But it gives you a perfect excuse to return.

Charlie,

Thanks for sharing the hunt with us! Sorry you didn't get the hippo, but still a great experience! I'm sure like me your already planning your next trip in your head

Man! I was really pulling for you! But that's hunting. Look forward to the next trip!

Great report! Great hunt! Great time! Sometimes the success can't be measured by your plan. It has to be measured by the great time and experience you had. This sounded like the great time and experience.
Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to your next episode with "The Illusive River Horse Part II". Coming to your AH forum 2018. Stay tuned!

Sounds like a trip of what ifs; what if I just held an inch higher, what if I'd just held back 30 seconds more! We all have these types of hunts, you make the best of the experience, be happy and glad you had the opportunity to go and, be damn and determined that he's not going to get away next time!

Great report, sounds like fun! I went muzzleloader hunting for elk last year and never connected but it was a great trip with my Dad and friends! Sounds like you had a grand adventure!

Sorry you didn't have the success you wanted Charlie. Better luck next time!

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
