This is my M70 375 with a McMillan dark McWoody. It doesn’t look out of place in my cabinet of wood stocked rifles.
I like it my man! I like it a LOT!View attachment 527518View attachment 527519

Your plan is over complicated, super expensive, and completely unnecessary for what you are trying to accomplish. That's why I like this McMillan "Mcwalnut". I love all the old romantic rifles but at the end of the day your rifle is indeed a tool. Hemingway and Ruark and all those guys were not hunting with flintlocks because "that's the way they used to do it", they along with everyone else back then used the most up to date technology they could get thier hands on. While I do want to keep it a little bit classic, I plan to make it the most accurate and capable rifle that I can. The McMillan HTG is tough, no worries about scratches or rough handling. The switch lug system allows for barrel/caliber changes depending on the particular mission at hand. The picatinny rails machined into the action allow for fast and repeatable changes in optics or sight apertures, again mission dependant. West Texas Ordnance rifles are crazy accurate and the repeatability between barrel changes is incredible. This will definitely be a work rifle and not a show piece, however at a glance it will look pretty much like a regular wood and blue rifle, its just synthetic and cerakote camouflaged as wood and blue.
I know, while a standard issue off the shelf bergarra, remington, fill in the blank, would absolutely be the smart play here I figured I would take the opportunity to build an interesting rig and I think that is exactly what this is going to be.Your plan is over complicated, super expensive, and completely unnecessary for what you are trying to accomplish.
It’s also really freaking cool, which is obviously the most important consideration. I can’t wait to see the finished product.
Put a Weatherby Vanguard in .257 Weatherby on consignment yesterday and while I was at the gunshop, I saw two 2 boxes of 20 rounds of primed Weatherby brand in that cartridge, a skosh over 60 bucks a box.I know, while a standard issue off the shelf bergarra, remington, fill in the blank, would absolutely be the smart play here I figured I would take the opportunity to build an interesting rig and I think that is exactly what this is going to be.
I'm looking more now at going with a magnum bolt face and doing a small magnum, something like a 257 wby and pair it with a 375.
