Rimmed (only) Cartridges

.303 British
8x58RD
9,3x74R
450/400 3 1/4 NE
.470NE
.475 3 1/4NE
.577 " BPE
10 bore single rifle

There are no wrong answers here....they are all wonderful in their own way.

I just put a deposit on the rifle that will utilize the 21st different rimmed cartridge of my handloading career....the 45-90.

22 Hornet to 470 N.E. I love them all.

Plenty more to try....I wonder if I will live long enough?

I have a few rifles in rimed cartridges
Of course all the basics rimfires.
Plus- 44mag
454
30-30
30-40
303
444
45-70
450-400
470
And last but not least 500. I think that’s it.

Long sleek like the 9.4x74r are very pleasing to my eye.

For shear versatility my pick would go to the 375 flanged.

45/70 is always a joy
Paired with a 22 k jornet and i am happy
@Warbeast
I had the opportunity to buy a sweet little Ruger No3 for $500 in 22 hornet but like a Muppet I turned it down as I was in the process of building a K Hornet on a 1885 lowall action. Still regret that stupid decision.

I wouldnt. The no 3 dont look proportional to me.
A low wall would be much more pleasing

True but think of the possibilities. The wood off a No1 fits the No3. Same action just a different lever.
Could have been made into any caliber I wanted even a Whelen.
What's not to love.

I use a lot of single shots, so have numerous rimfires, a 25-35 on a martini, a 32-35 on a martini, a couple of 310 cadets, a 450/400 2 3/8 on a large frame martin, a breach seated 45/70 ( equivalent to a 45/100) on a rolling block, a 22HP on a savage 99 a couple of 303’s. Oh, there is also the baby saddle ring carbine '92 in 32/20 that is apparently rare.

@Grumpy gumpy
What about a very rare win92 in 25-20 with an original 1927 Winchester stainless steel barrel.
Bob

The carbine has a factory 15 inch barrel, one sold in 2016 for US$4000, mine was found in a shed at mt Isa back in ’89-90. They apparently only made around 700 in that style out of the approx 2,000,000 92’s made

I think then.450 Ne in a NR1 or similar fall block or strong double rifle is one of most versatile for the money to use .
From .45-70 levels to .460 Wby start loads and floating in the middle on the original 2150 500 grain .

7x57 R is newest for me so hope to see it afield this year . One that holds up very good and was one of first R ones used in large extent here post American cartridge fever in break action s.

Favorite rimmed cartridge? The 8-bore!

Finally got one after years of dreaming and I love it!

I have more experience with black powder cartridges than smokeless so I’d say in order - favorite first:

461 Gibbs No.2
577-500 (500 No.2)
500-450 No.2 Musket (461 Gibbs No.1 here too - pretty much the same thing)
500-450 No.1 Express
500 3”
360 No.5

Smokeless rimmed cartridges I have some experience with, favorite at the top:

303 British
400-360NE
30-40 Krag
450-400 3”
6.5X53R (6.5 Dutch)
500NE

Of course any of the BP cartridges can be loaded with smokeless and I have done that with most of them.
Just as the 45-70 can do double duty from mild to wild.
The 30-30 and 50-110 should be somewhere on my list too. Those are both fun rifles to shoot!
