Researching leopard hunts...

I don’t have any direct experience but have done lots of research. Going in September. Seems like you should look hard at Tanzania and Zambia. A number of operators there are almost 100% on leopards over a number of years. I don’t think there are a lot of places that can match the success rates with good operators in those countries

Also try Graham Sales, I know that he is hunting quite few leopards in 2023 and might be full but he is also the right person to speak to, his reputation also speaks for itself.

I would think that Graham is booked out but I would love to meet him. His reputation is very high. Great suggestion.

Which PH did you hunt with and which area? I look forward to seeing CMS at DSC again.
I hunted with Keith Wall at Dande North. Heck, they used my leopard pic on this year's shows, Keith is next to me.

Years ago I booked a leopard hunt and the permits didn't come through...so I switched countries and species to a tuskless hunt. No regrets! Now I want to come back and finish what I started years ago. I'm looking at the different options (dogs or baiting) in different countries. Dogs in Mozambique looks pretty interesting so it's a possibility. I'm looking ahead 1-2 years for booking.

I'm looking for options and feedback from those who have hunted Spots. This will likely be my only time to focus on leopard if successful. I don't mind the idea of playing the chess game of picking the right tree, blind setups, straining your senses, etc but I'm also interested in the tracking and chase with dogs option. Two very different hunts with pros and cons for each style. I will also be at DSC talking to outfitters and PHs. It would be nice to get a short list of guys to meet at DSC.

Thoughts?
Honestly I would look some where in Zambia. I went on a Leopard hunt in 2021 June in Zambia. I shot a huge cat there with my 30.06 right behind the shoulder. We found blood, heard him growling for about 5 minutes in the bush. I thought I had my trophy. But he ran about 300 yards up stream and into the brush. We backed off & went out the next morning. By the time we found him hyenas had torn him apart :E Crying::E Crying::E Crying:.

Zambia has some HUGE cats. HUGE!!!! Im planning on returning for another Leopard hunt in 2024. Leopard/Croc hunt. The only areas that Ive seen cats equal to the size of Zambia. Tanzania and Ive seen another operation in Zimbabwe where they were huge. I'm not knocking anyone else but I think you will be hard pressed to find bigger leopards than in the Luangwa valley. Again I want a large croc so this is the perfect area for both IMO.

I can find out for you and revert back, I know he is currently in Mozambique on a safari, but I am in touch with him.

Botswana has huge leopards that weren’t hunted for seven years! Should be high on your list. I sent my friend this year and he killed a 190 pound hawg!

Novel statement:

"We actively focus on punching the Leopard tag, thereafter, filling the remaining Safari days with hunting Crocodile, Lion, Elephant and a variety of plains game. There are no extra charges bar the trophy fee – Tiger fishing included!"

Hay there Green Chile, we do leopard hunts with hounds. Let us know if you need some extra quotes.

Many of the top-10 world records came from SW Zim on or around Marshlands / Steak Fontaine / Castle Block. Paddy “Bloodnut” Curtis owned that place and was the PH for many of those animals. Today, that area is run by Vaughan Whitehead Wilson and Garth Adams of Mapassa safaris. They have both blind hunts and hound hunts. (I think they are the only hound hunt for leopard in Zimbabwe?)

I just got back from Niassa reserve. Kambako safaris Jumbo Moore is the contact. The leopards are a little smaller in body size but they run 100% from blinds. Definitely worth looking into and calling references.

Vaughn Whitehead Wilson is blue chip for hunting leopards with hounds in Zim. I think you can either hire him separately to bring his hounds or book the entire hunt through him (probably preferred). But if you're thinking of hounds in Zim, he's definitely one of the best.

I second Vaughan and Garth from Mapassa safaris. They can do blind hunting, but they would rather run their pack of hounds in the rocky hills for a good chase.

“Hunting leopard over hounds is about as much fun as you can have with your clothes still on.” - Vaughan Whitehead

If I understood correctly, the world record leopard last year was taken on their concession.

They have no social media presence, nor public website, by choice, as they mostly cater to those for whom discretion is of utmost importance. Specialising in leopard over hounds and big elephant bulls. Other species are possible as well of course.

If you would like a contact, let me know.

What size elephant are they taking?
