Hello Mates!!

I finally got around to switching out the Savage 110 .270 barrel to the ER Shaw .35 Whelen.
The stock isn’t fully inlet yet, put very close!
Here’s the pic of her almost fully complete!
Whatcha think @Bob Nelson 35Whelen?

If anyone has a Stevens 200 synthetic stock they wish to donate, I will be more than happy to take it off of your hands for you.

No joking, I will.

I am a big fan of the savage 110, i have a 1975 vintage 110 CL 7mm REM Mag left hand, given to me by a relative that i use right handed with no problems.

Very nice. If you were so inclined, a Boyd's laminate stock may fit your needs and increase the weather resistance as well.

Yes, I’m thinking of that stock as well.
Not sure if they have a large enough opening on the forend tip. But I will check it out.

I am too!
I have been a fan since 1988, when I got my first package gun in 7mm Rem Mag.

They may not be exactly pretty, but boy!! They are extremely strong, and have more safeguards than a lot of modern rifles.

Very Nice, the 35 Whelen is my favorite cartridge, it's my go to for all most everything I hunt.

Better if it’s a little tight to begin with anyway. Easy enough to sort out with a piece of copper pipe and some sanding. Then you can bed it properly.

I’m really surprised it’s not as popular as it could be.
The -06 case makes it extremely efficient, plus it rivals the .338 Win Mag in trajectory and power.
To me, less powder, less recoil, than the .338 Win Mag, and having the frontal area of that .358 cal bullet, forget about it!
I just wish I would have found the .35 Whelen 20 years ago. I wouldn’t have loosened several fillings in the process.

Yes, you are correct.
It’s just a hair tight.
That’s exactly what I was going to do. Get the old copper pipe, and sandpaper!!
Great minds think alike!!

I have several Savage/Stevens 110s there are great for barrel swaps,7-08,338-06. I take my favorite 110S to the range every once in a while if I,m having a bad day and need a confidence booster

With loads starting with the 180 gr Barnes thru the 310 gr Woody the 35 Whelen covers a lot of animals in a lot of situations.

You are correct, again!!

Covering a lot of animals is why I wanted to have a 35 Whelen.
When I get back to Wyoming, or Colorado, and I’m hunting elk, or moose, in grizz country, then I won’t have to be worried if a grizz hears the rifle report, and thinks it’s a dinner bell. I am well covered if I need to use it to defend myself.
Not to mention that it is an excellent elk, and moose round!

35 Whelen is overrated, rainbow trajectory, lacks shoulder for proper headspacing, and a far cry from many claims to the contrary.
Why I wouldnt have one up my arse!!

Gimme a .338 any ol day of the week!
:W Dynamite: :A Outta: :rolleyes::ROFLMAO::eek::cautious:

Did you replace the recoil lug and barrel nut? I’m doing something similar but in .338-06 with an ER Shaw barrel. I probably will replace both.

Looks pretty good. The barrel might be a bit heavy for my taste, but that should tame the recoil.

Yes, the barrel is considered a magnum contour, and a little heavy.
That’s the only size ER Shaw had at the time.

I did replace the recoil lug to a magnum recoil lug. Probably didn’t need to, but wanted to see how it reacts with it.
Barrel nut is the same as a regular barrel nut. Thankfully, didn’t need a larger barrel nut.
Good luck on your barrel swap!!

Hello, My wife and I hunted with Marius 2 years ago. He fit us into his schedule after a different outfitter "bailed" on us. He was always very good with communications and although we didn't end up meeting him personally, he called us multiple times during our hunt to make sure things were going well. We were very happy with him.

Reach out to the guys at Epic Outdoors.

They will steer you right for landowner tags and outfitters that have them.

I have held a membership with them for years and they are an invaluable resource.

Way better that asking random people on the internet...WAY better

Skydiver386,

Did you ever find your 30-06 CZ550? I own a fairly solid conditioned one, if you wanted to talk.
