Pre War Mauser in Schuler Caliber 11.2x72

Very nice Schuler Mauser.

Always been fascinated by bullets made from other cartridge brass.
Can you explain the process?
Lead core alloy formula, swaging techniques, bonding, bullet performance, e.g. penetration and expansion?

Thank you for your insight.
I have a special die for rounding the nose - not made expressly for this, but works well - but other than that, when I started making .458s I used 243Win and 303 British FLS dies to make them.
One could actually use just the 303 die.
The key is to choose the case with a base diameter which most closely matches the diameter of the bullet you want.
Then, you fully anneal the empty brass, either fill them with molten lead or use a core and then with liberal lube and arm strength you press them up into the die to a predetermined depth - where the taper matches the desired diameter and then knock it out of the die with a rod.

I've posted in depth on other forums which I cannot link here but maybe I can start a new thread to fully explain the process when I get more time.
That said, I haven't used any on game so can't comment on anything regarding that other than what I know other folks have experienced.

I can hardly help you in the USA, because I live not very far from the Belgian border.

Mr. Degol has said some of us that he would eventually be ready to produce a few hundred SP and FMJ bullets caliber .440/11,2mm for the cartridge 11,2x72 Schüler. I am not so sure if that is possible and so I think that if something more bullets are ordered from your side in the USA, he can to start with the production.
I have discovered a solution to the need for solids for the 11.2x72 in the US. Cutting Edge makes a .440 Safari Solid that is 450grains. I made a fixture for my lathe and have cut them down to 400gr. which is correct for the cartridge. I haven't shot any yet but I'm fairly certain that they will work well. The photo shows the 450gr. next to the 400. I can probably supply a few of these to others. If interested PM me.

The problem is that bullets with a large, flat tip cause problems when quickly feeding with original rifles caliber 11,2x72 Schüler built with standard Mauser 98 action and short magazine. I got enough FMJ bullets from Mr. Degol in the meantime.

I tested them in my original Schuler and they did feed fine from either side of the magazine

Here is a photo of the 400gr solid seated deep enough for the Mauser standard magazine along with the solid bullet and a Woodleigh 401gr Weldcore. Because of the length of the solid it seats pretty deep in the case but still leaves plenty of room for my RL15 load at just under 2,300fps as tested with the Woodleighs.

The cartridge 11,2x72 Schüler is not a bad Dangerous Game cartridge, despite being a compromise to fit in a standard Mauser 98 action. Better suited in all cases than the cartridge 10,75x68, but still a cartridge that, despite its caliber, belongs more in the large medium bore category, like the cartridge 404 Jeffery for example. For the only buffalo I have shot with it, I used the classic 401gr SP bullet from Woodleigh. With the new FMJ bullets from Degol, I would definitely feel much better against a buffalo or even an elephant. I don't know if that will ever happen, as I have better suitable rifles for dangerous game hunting at my disposal and always use the one that works optimal because of the chance of success. Dangerous game hunts are becoming more and more expensive so that there is less and less room to experiment with the risk of failure and loosing of money.

Here is my 11,2x72 Schüler Rifle. It's an original ASS, distributed by Robert Bessel & Son from Sagan in Silesia (now spelled "Zagan" because it's now part of Poland). It was then exported to the English company Thomas W. Watson in London.

What?
Making bullets from spent brass?
Works as good (or probably better) than any cup and core jacketed bullet.
Works very well, lots of people make .224 projectiles from 22lr brass, that are very effective hunting rounds, a friend was making 35 cal, 416, 404 and 458 projectiles from spent pistol brass, they were exceptional hunting projectiles
Gumpy

Phillip, dot means it was made in Czechoslovakia at the BRNO factory, not Dachau. While late war "hurry up" guns are always a little suspect, I would not be afraid to build a gun on it assuming an inspection by a good gunsmith and I probably wouldnt build some super hotrod out of it. It would be good for whatever size round that could be stuffed in its magazine if kept at standard pressures.
I have a custom BRNO VZ 24 rifle marked with the German Eagle proof mark . It is a 7mm Mauser. Just a fabulous rifle / cartridge combo.
