Politics

Probably, the same folks that believe Jan. 6 was a sewing circle, Ukraine aid buys politicians yachts, 2020 election was stolen, 9/11 was CIA etc., etc..
you boys need to try watching something besides NBC and reading the NYT.

There's a real world out there.

Damn @Red Leg Did you just say “false dichotomies”? In a hunting forum? Had to get my damn thee saurus out.

Making my head explode

Just watched DeSantis provide an update on Hurricane prep to Bret Baier. How in the world did we not choose this articulate, capable leader over a nearly eighty-year-old adolescent with a bad comb over.
Uneducated electorate with room temperature IQ that responds strongly to populist messaging rather than substance. We have come full circle to blaming "the man" for everything that ails us.

Heck, we even elect people like MTG that claim the government engineered hurricane Helene by controlling the weather.

Churchill is also worth reading. I have almost everything he wrote - in fact just found a first edition of the "River War." One I finished reading a couple of months ago that is wonderful is his autobiography of his early life published between the wars. It is a delightful and an often very funny read that covers his rather full life up until election to parliament. It was published in 1930 - a full decade before he became Prime Minister.

It was also made into an excellent movie "The Young Winston" 1972 starring Simon Ward, Ann Bancroft, and John Mills among others. It is easy to find on many of the streaming services and follows the book faithfully.

If you’re referencing Churchill’s works, I believe that I have most if not all. I believe that the Malakand Field Campaign is one of my favorites. The World Crisis is a bit self serving, but he was equal parts politician and warrior.

A first edition of that, his first real book, has sadly escaped the limits of my library allowance.

I have this late night dread that the kids will not follow my directions with respect to where to consign the library and they will all go for five or ten dollars a copy at an estate or yard sale.

I happened on a first edition in an obscure bookshop in eastern Canada. Even blind pigs find an acorn now and then.

DeSantis is proving once again that he may well be the best Administrator of any of our leaders. He did a very impressive news conference a couple days ago. One prime example, knowing gas stations would run out of fuel along evacuation routes, he assured everyone there was plenty of fuel available in the State but there would be localized shortages. He had the Florida highway patrol available to escort fuel trucks with lights and sirens to fill needs.

The list of preemptive preparations DeSantis had done was near mind blowing. And he had spoken to Biden to coordinate Federal help. Even had electrical repair crews mobilized from as far away as California. And well ahead of the Hurricane making land fall.

First of all, Trump has that pesky track record of lowering taxes and having a rocking economy prior to Covid-19. And that track record of basic World Peace during his tenure.

Trump probably had a much stronger base and ground game than DeSantis going in. He speaks not only with words but also with his actions that resonate extremely well with the populous. I would argue that DeSantis does as well, but his track record was of a State, not the Nation.

DeSantis gave that great briefing of his recent efforts and did it with confidence and a smooth comfortable delivery. He seems to really be in his element "getting stuff done". But so is Trump. However on the debate stage DeSantis has a grating voice, and he bounces as he makes his points. He sounds defensive where Trump is always on the offense. DeSantis seems nervous. I strongly suspect he will overcome those things and be a real contender in the future, given the chance. Trump raises his voice with tempo and strength. DeSantis gets squeaky. I think DeSantis was still in the "paying his dues" phase.

Trump connects so much better with the common folk in ways that so many over educated egotistical elitists cannot understand;) He unapologetically flaunts America's greatness. He projects strength and confidence. He seems to be as comfortable under a hard hat at a construction site or standing beside a combine in a farmers field than in the board room. Yet nobody has any doubt he can dominate a board room. Or a room full of International Leaders. Trump has bigger balls and that resonates with the electorate, especially the "room temperature" crowd.

Heck there are many of us in the "uneducated electorate" who would have preferred DeSantis this time around... But all the Lawfare and persecution brought down upon Trump was just so blatant and over reaching that our sense of fair play could not tolerate.

Talking to many of my acquaintances, and I honestly cannot think of one who measures their IQ, who had been really strong Trump supporters were moving away from Trump and preferring DeSantis. Perhaps those room temperature folks have bigger hearts than brains but they have a very strong sense of fair play.

One more uneducated observation from under my tin foil hat... And I might point out that this seems to be the opinion of another of the electorate who builds electric cars and rockets... not sure of his IQ.... If Trump doesn't win this time around, and we do not elect AND maintain a very strong Republican majority in the House and the Senate, especially the Senate... will a Republican ever win the White House again?

If you want the likes of DeSantis or even Haley to ever have a shot at the Presidency.... Vote for Trump now! Given the opportunity, the Democrats will stack the Supreme Court and use it to dismantle the Constitution as much as they can. If they can find a way, they will eliminate the Electoral College (and the first and second amendments). And they will see to it that our Borders remain open to anyone likely to vote liberal. Plus give them the right to vote.

@Tanks , don’t insult the many educated people that did and will vote for Trump, my father has 3 college degrees and taught at a major university for 30 years, one of my brothers in laws flew army helicopters for 20 years and another is a doctor and a retired 2 star general. All three voted for Trump and I would hardly call them uneducated. These are just a few of the well educated people that I know that did, I’m somewhat of an outlier as I preferred DeSantis but I only have 2 degrees.

Bob, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - you can say that will convince me that we have anything other than two terrible choices this time. My prayer is that the senate flips republican. If Trump loses, it will have to flip it in spite of him heading the ticket and the pending failure of some of his hand-picked candidates - the ever flailing Kari Lake comes to mind. Should Trump win, then we can pray his rather stubby coattails are just long enough to carry across a senate majority.

In either case, a republican senate can insure the worst progressive ideas of a Harris administration are still born and that the more radical nominees to judiciary and federal appointments are stopped. If Trump wins, then that same majority can insure that he doesn't take precipitative action that could seriously harm our strategic international interests.

And you really don't want me to provide a list of conflicts taking place worldwide during his tenure, though he did not get the US into a new one. I think I'll leave the whole "world peace" thing in the hands of God.

My wife has 3 degrees and could go back for a semester and gain two more.... I don't have a high school diploma although I do have a GED I have never used for anything.... And Gina is a much bigger Trump fan than I am. However we both realize we are really voting for policies more than personalities.

But never mind, it's ok to insult those of us without a formal education ;)
