Which would be disastrous for the down-ballot races.
That is my chief concern. To have a prayer of holding the House and taking the Senate, we need a massive enthusiastic turnout. I live in a far more conservative region, but among my circle, I would guess a third will find something else to do on election day. And Trump doing his usual tasteless ridicule of Haley last night does nothing but encourage that reaction.

And that is why I thought it laughable that some were lauding him for being gracious in victory after Iowa. I do not believe he is capable of being genuinely magnanimous. I am not sure any narcissist can be.

Unfortunately yes.
A lot of close down-ballot races could be lost along with the majority in congress.

I despise Trump‘s childish, embarrassing behavior also but our country is burning with division, government agencies working against its own citizens. We are spiraling fast, and his policies are worth putting up with his childish behavior. in my humble opinion.

But I understand how people cannot see past the childish behavior

Last night CNN reported that 70% of Haley's votes came from voters registered as undeclared. 27% registered Republican. And 3% not registered until yesterday.

For whatever that may be worth.
Very interesting.

First female president,
Who happens to be black...
First husband and wife presidents
More ridiculous Biden immigration policies
Reparations for descendents of slaves
More George Soros influence on America
The list of advantages to the Obama's goes on and on...

Please, please, please vote for the lesser of whichever evil politicians are running...
Yes, we would have another disastrous four years and continue down the path towards Marxism. Our only temporary hope for the future would be if the Republicans can keep their majority in the House and MAYBE gain a majority in the Senate. Although, look at the damage being done to our remaining middle class and social fabric through Biden’s unelected Federal agencies. He almost doesn’t need Congress to vote for anything while destroying things from within.

Also, remember that DeSantis only suspended his campaign he did not drop out. If Trump is convicted or somehow taken out of the race. Desantis could get back in. If enough open delegates remain
So what is the bottom line - if he is convicted is he out of the running? I have heard it both ways now, but does anyone have a solid answer?

After listening to the audio tape of the AZ Repub Party Chair trying to threaten and bribe Kari Lake out of running for the Senate, I'm waiting for the next call out here about how it's all just MAGA right wing conspiracy theory... pay no attention to your lying ears. The DC Swamp is deep, corrupt and arrogant! Also, something in this Kari Lake audio smells of turtle.....

But never fear, the deep pocket DC Swamp donors got their claws deep into Haley. She'll carry their water

I feel like we as a country could make a lot of progress on solving some of these issues with the right person in office. But I do not think we will address division in this country by putting forth what is probably the most divisive candidate in American political history. His candidacy will likely accelerate the division of which you speak, not mend it.

Louis you are correct. We are screwed either way. If Trump somehow wins, the other side will be rioting and burning their own cities. And endless impeachments.

If Biden wins, we just keep our foot pressed to the floor driving over the cliff

Even if DeSantis or Haley win, it’s only four years. the Democrats will eventually get back in
And there are plenty of Republicans helping with the destruction of this country.

Luckily we only have a few more years to survive due to climate change anyway.

I see things a bit more bleak. I think the country is irrevocably broken and will eventually end in civil war and total social fabric breakdown. What new nation rises up out of that is TBD and hopefully a long way off.

A trump win will cause the crazies to act out in bizarre, irrational ways so the average citizen can see them for what they are. (e.g. the reaction to "defund the police" and "no bail/bond holds for criminals") The easily duped average Joe and Sue will see this as bizarre and irrational reactions of the far left, buying us a few more decades of the Republic. Alternatively, if a lefty wins the White House, they will continue to harass and suppress any conscientious objector, moving us closer to a leftist 1984 police state.

I'm not focused on the long-term winnable game for a society that is in the "fall of Rome" era. My obsession is maintaining the reasonably functional shit-show of a country as it is as long as possible, ideally to keep it together for the entirety of my children's lifetimes. A vote for Trump is a vote for gridlock, treading water, and Washington disfunction. That sounds about as rosy of a scenario as I can imagine at present. I'm far more concerned with the prospect of a socialist getting into power "and really getting a lot of things done".

I don’t know what everyone is so worried about.

If Trump is elected, which appears likely, he will be a lame duck from Day 1. The Dems will just go into a stalling tactic on everything and very little will get done in four years. JMHO.

Share Message - 'I just love you': Tim Scott and Donald Trump's other challengers fall in line

Gross. I understand politics is a dirty business and being a sycophant is often a pathway to bigger and better things in that world, but I can't imagine standing up behind a guy and acting like this when said guy continually embarrasses you on a personal level in front of the world.

Makes me feel vicarious embarrassment and shame. I don't know how they do it.

Sorry for the negativity that follows but I am somewhat baffled how you all talk like this nation still has honest elections. Despite the weaponizing of multiple government agencies against anyone not part of the corrupt establishment. Despite the national media playing the role of propaganda ministry.
Due to this, a corrupt career politician and dementia ridden pedophile received 16 million more votes than Obama by campaigning from his basement…?! Beating anyone is no problem for whichever candidate they choose. If Trump isn’t imprisoned or assassinated he will be beaten in a purposely nail biting close election. That part is for the ratings to give their slaves in the media their gruel and to entertain the gullible masses. Trump’s future is as bleak as the nation’s future in my opinion.
The puppet masters will have their candidate and that candidate can easily come from either party, democrats or republicans.
I told my wife in 2016 that Trump was a surprise who they did not take seriously and they will not let that happen again.
Trump never drained the swamp but they exposed themselves out of their hatred for him and “they” are numerous and clearly in control.

So I live in what, at times for me, is a highly aggravating environment: I live in a very liberal/left wing bubble in a Republican state, Alaska. Dillingham - permanent population of something just north of 2500 people - is a regional hub, generally a good place to live, and maddeningly quite liberal/left leaning. Because of this our local government drives me bat-shit crazy, I loathe my local state rep, and the good townsfolk of Dillingham are overwhelmingly supporters of Biden.

I bring this up because when I look at my local situation and see it as a microcosm, it actually is easy enough for me to believe that Biden was, more or less, fairly elected. I'm not suggesting the election process is without issues, or even some level of corruption, but the idea he could garner enough votes to win? Sure. I can believe that.

I think the far bigger issue - just my opinion - is the majority of American voters today. Far too many want what's easy, don't look beyond the surface, have a form of ADHD where national level issues are concerned (or just flat out apathy), and worse - they are raising up the next generation to be even more inclined to be that way. Dear heavens, here in Alaska? Everyone wants a government handout - as many as possible and keep them coming.

No, I think it far more likely that @rookhawk 's analysis is closer to true than it's not, although the optimist in me wants to believe there is some sort of failsafe ahead of us still that will help to get us back on the right path.

Is our election process perfect? Nope. However, if it's Trump and Biden again come November, and Biden wins again, I think it'll be a lot less about whether it was fair or not, and a lot more about too many Americans just don't give a sh!t and want what they perceive to be the easiest path - the one of least resistance. Pulling some of those middle ground to just left of middle folks back from the brink is going to take someone who has tact and patience, which is exactly why Trump will once again fail, if he's our nominee.

Last night I read TheLovelyMrs the speech of Oliver Cromwell's when he dissolved Parliment in 1653 I believe it was.
"as a group do you possess one single virtue? Is there one single vice you do not possess? In the name of God, GO!"
What we need to tell Congress.
