As an onlooker

With zero interest in voting in the US elections (though I hold a U.S. passport thanks to a previous marriage)

With an ‘ interest’ in international affairs

I’d rather the dems over Trump

You Americans are perceived, rightly or wrongly’ as an over privileged and utterly naive culture

Sadly you hold all our futures in your utterly inept hands

You need to grow up !!!

Merry Xmas

I am not sure if it is ignorance or naivety - or perhaps one is at the root of the other? - but yes, I would worry.

First off I’m definitely not a Trump fan but I’m curious how you prefer todays Democratic Party over Trump. When he left office the seas were relatively safe for cargo ships, no new wars but now we have 2 new wars raging with the possibility of 2 more. Taiwan/ China and Venezuela/ Guyana and cargo ships are being attacked daily and in need of naval escort. Maybe it’s our current administration seems more willing to help other countries before they take care of their own citizens.

Interesting article above.
CMA CGM my former company.
When I asked for firearms on board to be supplied, for protection of the piracy (in the wake of captain Phillips story and serious piracy situation in gulf of aden then)
The flag and company stand was, no weapons on board for the fear of escalation of violence at deep sea.
Compromise was later found, in case to case basis to have armed security guards. Or sail in convoy, under navy escort.

Despite of all this nice politically correct support and decisions, I would still prefer firearms on board, for safety and security under ships command and hierarchy.
However, firearms may tackle pirates, but with present thread of missiles and drones, only navy escort can provide protection from air attack.

Illustration:
On G captain page, the liner ship is illustration only, It is MEARSK vessel. (not cma cgm)

Three large companies rule liner trade from far east to Europe and USA, today:

Maersk - the biggest

MSC - second largest (mediteranean shipping company) italian (sometimes called MSC -mafia shipping company)

CMA CGM - third largest shipping company in the world, when I was there they were running fleet of 400 vessels.

All three companies keep growing.

Now now, before you sophisticated Europeans get too carried away with that whole worldly smugness thing, I need to clear the acid reflux from the back of my throat and erase everything in my mind that I know about European history from 28 July 1914. :E Shrug::E Shrug: ;) But who knows, we may achieve your standard yet. From a world management perspective, it isn't that high a bar.

Meanwhile back in Ukraine, the Russian bloggers over on Telegram are gnashing their collective teeth over the destruction of another Russian naval vessel. This was apparently a Ropucha class ship used to transport military materiel.

This one was reportedly loaded with Iranian supplied munitions. Judging by the secondaries, it clearly wasn't transporting dairy products.

Awesome. I am amazed by Ukrainian ingenuity and audacity.

Its normal. I think the anti ship missile is most dangerous weapon against surface ships.
And, Russians have some naval fleet in Black Sea, so targets are there, sooner or later they will get hit. Ukraine does not have fleet. (zero), so we will never see similar Ukrainian loss on the news.

But reflecting now to other side side of world.
They are targeting now commercial shipping from Yemen, in red sea and approaches to Bab el Mandeb strait. This has potential if not dealt with to seriously affect global trade. I think that since ww2 nobody targeted merchant shipping, except in the 80-ies in iran - iraq conflict. (again middle east)

Good thing in Ukranian // Russian conflict - nobody is targeting merchant shipping.
Black sea is fully navigable.

It is utterly clear to me that the Democrats are bad for the USA, destructive in fact. The reason is that they draw part of their power base from the far left where ideals must triumph despite the cost, even if it is destruction of the state - the ‘burn it down’ thing. You take on the label of your extremes, they do so, and therefore they are destructive extremists.

The conservative Republican right are about status quo, chill. They have their problems, but they are far less destructive than burning it all down. Trump is a symbolic leader and lots hate him, but he is not a box of matches. In my humble opinion the reaction against him by a lot of you on AH is a might overblown. You are looking for perfect, and it doesn’t exist. You really want Biden instead of Trump? If I had the ability to vote in your elections I would vote Trump all day long in that particular choice. Now bring on some alternate candidates and things change of course, but one plays with the cards one has.

Wunderbar!!.

In regards to the Russian "man pool" 1940s vs Now. I wonder if the plan is to get as many young russians killed as possible so the nation will never recover. The plan is to spread the infomation the wests ammunition storages are emty and that Putin believes this and keeps sending troops to Ukraine(thinking is is close to winning) not knowing he is killing the future of the Russian state to excist. The genpool that should secure the future is taking mudbaths in Ukraine instead with no "intensions" to come back to Russia.

I might have to take a few steps back in my theory. Just a few thoughts.
