My preferred hunting area in Arizona is approximately a 5 hour drive. Once there I'm 30-40 miles from the nearest town.

Imagine being up there, seeing a huge flash in the sky, and then your vehicle dies. A long way from nowhere.

The ensuing chaos from EMP's would end life as we know it. If it came to Nuclear war, the following ground blasts would be a hell scape right out of a nightmare.

This world has a few evil dictators with control of the nuclear football.

I met DeSantis face to face at a church in Fla. when he was first running for national office. I asked him to investigate electrical hardening if he should get into office, and explained briefly why (including solar flares at Carrington Effect level). He looked at me as though I were wearing an aluminum foil hat.
I couldn't agree more. I also have voiced my concerns to people in positions to bring the subject to the forefront. The reactions are nearly all the same...clearly mystified that I should expect them to suggest such a thing. As if I'd asked them to investigation an alien abduction.

I don't believe the security of the electrical grid is taken nearly seriously enough. Couple that with the blasé attitude toward water supply and food stocks security and it becomes truly frightening. Any one of which could be crippling...any combination thereof and, well, you get the idea. How can cybersecurity be so highly regarded (and should be) and yet the security of the very basics of survival be considered so trivial?

Reagan was eloquent and presidential. He handled the press with ease. Sam Donaldson, his toughest combatant (ABC News), admired and respected him. Reagan never engaged in a personal fight with anyone - regardless of party. And famously never spoke bad of a Republican. If Trump had one tenth Reagan's grace, presence, and common sense he would be president right now.

And yes, because of his lack of presidential and leadership qualities, history will remember him very differently than Reagan whatever his accomplishments.
RIGHT ON THE MONEY!!!

I think there is something we should consider in light of the recent election.

Democrats have maintained a decent margin in the congress. If the economy collapses in the next 2 years democrats will be connected to it as they are the ruling party. Like republicans in 1929, 2008.
If historical trends are to be correct this will result in a republican dominate period. We could even get our own FDR type individual.

That might not happen but that is a thought I have had in the back of my mind over the last few days.

I hope this makes sense.

Yep. Scares me more than almost anything. A single nuclear weapon detonated over Kansas at the correct height, and designed to maximize EMP output would instantly destroy every non-hardened electrical component in the country that uses a circuit board or semiconductor. That would include the vast majority of cars, aircraft, computers, cell phones, etc. Every bit of our computer based commerce would be wiped out in an instant along with basics like the utility grid. About the only machine on our place without a chip is my '69 Land Cruiser.

There is an excellent and fairly frightening novel by William Forstchen titled "One Second After" that describes the effect of such a catastrophic attack.

Good book for everyone to read.

Crude, yes but I take exception to the idea he was only in it for himself--he didn't take a salary, didn't allow his children to enrich themselves (they divested), SEEMED TO ALWAYS COME DOWN ON THE SIDE OF TRADITIONAL/FOUNDING FATHER VALUES, AND Supreme Court APPOINTMENTS REFLECTED THAT. (not to mention lower court apptments. He took care of veteran affairs. He worked his butt OFF, and I mean no one EVER worked as 4:00am early to 12:00 late month after month. He believed in America--that's why he ran--have you read any of his speeches lately in retrospect? He did a lot to right this country, and I refuse to let hatred of him be allowed to build an unfair straw man. No one knows how they would have done under the same onslaught. His opponents on the left were scum bag lying lawbreakers and first class Bastards all the way. (perverts, too) He had few real friends in Congressional leadership. Heck there was not even any hanky panky in his term.
Yes, he offended just about all the women, but with what in actual practice while in office? Sometimes a political "Gen. Patton" is needed--he was actually what we needed at the time in terms of policies. Can you imagine Garland in the Supreme Court today--where would your gun rights be then? When I think of the near seditious behavior, and third world election cheating (using the same machines as Venezuela for God's sake) of the left I am infuriated, and I doubt if time will soften a well earned malice. I'm going to remember them...
Love you guys, though...
Making money is not Trump‘s end goal. It’s not his bank account that needs feeding but his ego. He is mostly concerned with his self-image, not the country. If he really thinks Dem policies are a present danger, he would have actively supported the most electable Republicans to the hilt. Instead, he withheld support from anyone that disagreed with any of his positions. Backing third-rate candidates that were willing to stroke his ego turned what should have been a red wave into a red mist. Did you see that he is blaming Melania for his decision to back Dr. Oz? Perfect example of his out-of-all-proportion ego. He simple won’t admit error….or defeat.

I dunno, I know the pendulum swings back and all that but the way the left has inserted themselves into corporations and institutions nationally and globally makes me concerned we are leaving the democratic era and entering a democrat one.

Russia accused the UK of this at the end of October and still hasn’t produced any evidence.
Perhaps what is telling, the UK has launched an investigation into the "possible" hacking of Truss' phone.

Electricity is complicated. I understand how wire gets hot such as in an electric heater, but beyond that I have no comprehension. The "hardening" of the electrical grid is a quantum beyond no comprehension. but I do know that I think an administration that is bought and paid for by an adversary that has abilities to cause havoc with the electrical systems is a quantum beyond a bad thing.

It won't be the grid itself that is fried, but rather all the management tools, computers, switching components etc that will suddenly fail and have to be replaced. Of course, there aren't enough spare circuit boards on the planet to repair even a small percentage of the systems driving something important. Even if we could get them here and somehow distribute them.

Just imagine in a single nano second every automobile and truck built since around 1980, every aircraft, every train, every management system, every cell phone, every single computer in every business and home in the country suddenly quit and couldn't be repaired. Every pumping network to manage the flow of water or sewage would shut down. All transport of food and consumer goods would essentially instantly cease.

In the first hours of such an attack (remember, just one single warhead over Kansas) as many as half a million people would die - not from the blast but from its effect on our networks. For instance, every aircraft in range of the EMP pulse (essentially the continental US) would plummet from the sky. Total chaos would erupt in every major city as all communications, transportation, and security systems fail. Within six months as much as 50% of the population will be dead because of societal collapse and starvation. The mega population centers along the west and east coasts will likely see as much as 80% of the population dead.

It is a nightmare scenario. It is why a small rogue state with a few missiles capable of carrying a nuclear warhead are so worrisome.

Back to the war in Ukraine. Russia is scrambling to pull its remaining troops out of the city of Kherson and across the Dnieper River before their lines north of the river completely collapse. This is not going over entirely well on the Russian talk shows today - interesting because their content is normally tightly controlled by the Kremlin. One senses the narrative is unraveling. This is more than just retreat because Putin announced the annexation of Kherson just a few weeks ago. Not a good look. Apparently, as they did in Kharkiv, they are abandoning a lot of equipment.

This is the most hilarious. However bad our right to freedom of expression has been strained by the Woke battalions, we are not yet the Russian "news" media.

The key takeaway from your elections is that America needs and wants a leader they can trust to lead. That doesn't mean override their individual concerns, like abortion, or inflation, or whatever, but rising above that. Florida has a total spectrum of views, but I think despite that De Santis won as an encompassing leader more than he did as as a Republican. He could do the same for the whole nation.

That was indeed a great read, as well as the other installments. I especially liked the history teacher turned leader character.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
