I agree with Trump calling out other NATO members for their lack of funding and involvement. However, your statement that I quoted is naive. You said it, I didn’t. You should care.

As for my mixup on being an Aussie, my mistake.
@Red Leg,

Although I still think your explanation for the justification in our escalated involvement in Ukraine is a broad generalization, I will say that the plan of action you outlined is specific and precise which is far more than I have heard offered up by our own experts. I would emphasize again that the problem with all of this is the instability of Putin and the nuclear card he holds. That's the truly scary part that has only one end game. I would be interested to hear your plan if he were to utilize a nuclear weapon?

As always, I appreciate your opinions and insight although I am not sure if I am in total agreement with you on what the USA's role should be going forward.

LOL..! I'm a lot of things friend, but naïve is certainly not one of them! True naiveté is NOT asking these very obvious questions as to what our role should be in Ukraine or globally for that matter and if we are ready to pay those costs as a nation.

I'm certainly not an isolationist, but I am 100% America-first and there is a BIG difference.. Comparing the US's eventual involvement in WW2 to the Ukraine/Russian war is comparing apples and oranges. We had real, immediate, tangible economic and political interests in supporting Great Britain, France, and western Europe.. Our involvement in WW2 was inevitable and justified for many reasons that do not exist here and now in my opinion.

My comment about NATO was meant to be facetious, but not totally inaccurate. Real allies are of vital importance, but NATO has proven to be feckless organization with the vast majority of the financial and physical burden being provided by the USA for the last 20+ years. The USA can exist without NATO, but NATO is as useless as tits on a bull without the USA, and none of our political leaders had the balls to say it before Trump... Where was NATO's presence pre-invasion? Where are they in this conflict now? Why is the USA once again doing the heavy lifting? Let's say for the sake of argument that the US does escalate it's participation which results in direct US/Russian conflict. Is NATO going to join the fight? An attack on one is an attack on all right?? I guess we will see...

I do, however, agree with you on the USA's total lack of leadership throughout. The non-plan in the Afghanistan withdrawal made that crystal clear.. I have less than zero confidence in the Brandon Administration's ability to salvage a positive outcome out of this war.

BTW, I'm not an "Aussie".. Born and bred America citizen and a recently retired police officer with over 30 years service in the second largest county in Florida. I think that qualifies me to have an opinion on this country's discourse that differs from yours.. ;)

Y
I think you may be a bit confused. You're quoting BSO Dave who is American, not Australian.
With the exception of Marksman, most Australians are deeply concerned with the events in both Ukraine and the Pacific.
Yes, I mixed up their nationalities but my point about isolationists remains the same. Isolationists always claim they are not isolationists and are just looking out for the USA. Common theme throughout history.

Had we been involved in the 1930’s would the 1940’s have happened?

I assume that Roosevelt felt that recovering from the great depression probably seemed like more of a priority to the American people than fighting a foreign war across two different oceans. But, like I said, the "what if's" really don't matter.. Japan decided for us.. Maybe that was the plan all along?

I care far beyond what you can possibly fathom. That's why I'd like to find out exactly what we, as a nation, have to gain before committing more money and possibly blood to this fight.. What is naïve is thinking that NATO in it's current form is an organization that the USA is dependent upon to exist.. What is naïve is thinking that this can't end in WW3. And, as far as useless, feckless organizations go, you can add the UN to that pile..

So what's next? Are you going to call me a Putin sympathizer? LOL..

I’m glad you changed or clarified your position and that you do care. We agree more than disagree about your other points. I am quite sure that neither of us sympathize with Putin.

I think there’s a possibility this could start WWIII.

I also think it might be possible to avoid a nuclear war and for the USA, with or without NATO, to announce and become directly involved with air power to stop the Russians from taking Odessa and the entire southern coast of Ukraine. If we allow Russia to take the entire eastern border and the entire southern coast, that will be an economic death blow to what remains of Ukraine. I don’t think Putin would start a nuclear war over this but that is a risk.

I would almost bet that this air power option is being presented to Biden. I doubt Biden has the balls to proceed with it. Biden has been wrong on most foreign policy decisions. He was against trying to kill OBL in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Speaking of student loans…..

so true. You took out the loan. Now pay it back. I did and I had hard times doing so BUT it was my responsibility to pay it back. I was working part time while going to school and did not waste my money

Gentleman,

Putin stated he wants to regain the entire land area that was controlled by the Russian empire prior to the October revolution. Putin will not stop at taking only Ukraine. He also commented that he wants a Russian empire that streaches from Lisbon to Vladivostok.

What does this have to do with the USA? Everything! We cannot be isolated in the 21st century. The supply chain is world-wide. Remember the great toilet paper shortages? Just wait until next year when there are grain and fertilizer shortages because of the war in Ukraine this year. The Arab Spring occured partially due to grain shortages. Putin was an instigator of those shortages also.

Finally, China plays the long game. They are watching what the USA will do about Putin. Heck, Putin watched the hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan and was probably pleasantly underwhelmed with what he saw.

Bad guys prey on the weak and unprepared.

If anyone cares to suggest an outlet for news that is objective I would love to explore it.

I think that is impossible. News is made by people. People, no matter how hard they try are never 100% objective. Best one can do is listen to all sides of an argument and not allow preconceived convictions, or being tone deaf to an opponents view, cloud your own judgement.

I hope he turns it on and off like a light switch…before finally firing everyone and liquidating it.
I hope he shuts down the accounts of every Democrat turd in this country. Give them a taste of what it's like to be cancelled.

I actually look forward to seeing what Elon has as a vision for Twitter. How it will evolve in the future. Perhaps something positive can come from the flaming shit throwing contest that is the Twitter public forum.

(I bet it has something to do with his constellation of satellites circling the world)

Musk for the win...

Liberal heads are exploding all over the planet today...

Im patiently waiting for him to make a move on Netflix next lol... or maybe Disney..

My favorite part of all of it is... Liberals are pissed.. because Twitter is now owned by an African-American... :D :D :D

Musk claims to be a free speech absolutist so it remains to be seen how he handles Twitter. I guess if that's the way he does it I really don't have a problem with it.

As to the Ukraine, it's pretty obvious that the Russian government has an agenda to control as much of the old Imperial and or Soviet empire as possible. So far they suck at reaching their objectives but there's no reason to believe they won't continue trying. So we either work for their defeat in the Ukraine or end up involved due to NATO when Russia decides they want the Baltic states back.

He should first suspend, then rewrite the guidelines for posting. You can’t threaten anyone. You cant post someone’s address. And such. Lose the vague stuff like “don’t be evil”. Then fire everyone in the content moderation group. Lastly, post a disclaimer in bright red letters that Twitter does not exist to defend your sensibilities. Put on your big boy pants, snowflake, and read at your own risk,

Actually, our involvement in WW2 and the massive amounts of Government money infused into the economy for the war effort, is what finally ended the Great Depression. Before the war, FDR tried many things, such as his New Deal program, but with limited success and chronic unemployment and the Depression continued. WW2 brought FULL employment in the US from 14.9% unemployment in 1940 (from a high of 25%) to the standing record of 1.2% by 1944. FYI.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
