Border crossings will be zero when there is no demand. The US Chamber of Commerce plus the dems have avoided outrageous, punitive fines to small through large businesses for hiring illegals.

If you don't want illegals, make it a company ending financial holocaust for hiring one. Game-set-match. Without jobs, no illegals. Without benefits for illegals, no illegals.

Your produce will go up, and getting a roof put on a house will be 250% of present cost. But, you do save hundreds of billions on enforcement, prisons, welfare, schools, welfare for the legal and presently unemployed, healthcare, etc. Oh, and your kids will stand a better chance of going to a decent university with all the newfound available seats.

I think we disagree on the secondary effects of illegal immigration.

Every job an illegal does is one fewer job for a lawful US citizen looking for entry level work. Will the poor take these jobs or just sit at home lazy? Maybe half will, they just needed access to opportunity that should be granted to them preferentially. The other half will when we introduce welfare reforms that make it impossible to live in America on the government teat if you have the ability to do any form of work.

As to education, I am not speaking of the lawful foreign student visas, I’m talking about good old illegals taking seats at universities. Generally speaking, the best university for the lowest cost is a student’s flagship state university that *sometimes* offers deeply discounted in-state tuition. Getting into those universities if you’re a US citizen, a resident of the state, and you’re a Caucasian is VERY low. It is much easier to get into the same university if you’re the progeny of illegals and can check the diversity boxes. Every illegal getting a seat takes a seat away from a US citizen that has been paying taxes for that university their whole life in anticipation of a subsidized, deeply discounted, in-state price structure.

Just last week some extended family tried to get into the big State schools. Two very sharp young ladies with 3.8 and 3.9gpa respectively from some of the best high schools in the country. Very savvy people that when you speak with them, you’d want them at your company if you were hiring. Nonetheless, those bonafides resulted in two rejection letters for Wisconsin and a cadre of other schools. The best these two ladies could get was full-rate tuition at Ohio State and Penn State? Really? How many illegals got into programs where they applied with lower GPAs?

Agreed, we need the labor, but it needs to be legal. The tree crew I use for planting and hand spray work are legal Mexican workers on temporary work visas. The business owner, Juan, puts in the work to bring the same crew back every year. They are great workers.
