Politics

I am going to quote the great American political and military savant of our recently passed time, Dennis Miller.
"If you are going to go to war, go reluctantly. But if you DO go, go Roman. Hurt them so bad they will NEVER want to eff with you again".

All of it is DOA. Biden won’t get the billions to do what he already has the authority to do. And should have already done.

Unfortunately The moderates. “ Collage educated white women” will fall hook line and sinker for the excuse that Trump didn’t want a secure border.

Those “Collage educated” moderates. May want to seek a refund for their sheepskin.

So. I just read that Biden is nationalizing a small bit of the Alaska National Guard to go reinforce his efforts to thwart the sate of Texas' efforts to defend the border. This is to take place in early 2025, after the election so if he loses (God willing!) it will be a moot point.
But as an Alaskan, I am damn unhappy about this. I know that the National Guard gets a bunch of federal $, but they also get a bunch of state $. Should not the Governor of said state have some influence over the way his citizens are deployed? You Can bet that If Trump were to call out the NY Guard to REPULSE the invasion, there would be PLENTY of screeching going on.
Oh, and on a semi-related note, do any of you Alaskans know of an Alaska based forum where I could go to itch my urge to grouse about this and other related topics? I did a quick google, saw Alaska Outdoor Forums, but they didn't seem to be showing any political bitchery categories.

It's an interesting social experiment. We always talk about what our local sheriffs would do if given an unconstitutional or unlawful order. (or one that defies natural law) I'd like to know what these Alaska National Guard soldiers will do if told they should activate against the will of another US State who's own guardsman will not follow the same order.

My bet is the Alaskan soldiers will struggle to find their car keys, miss their flights and have to rebook, forget their BDUs and have to go shopping at the commissary first, etc, etc.

Dont get me wrong... I dont trust ANYTHING this administration says its doing related to the border..

but whats going on with the AK guard dates back to the old JTF-6 days (starting in 1989)... and has been going on continuously since then.. this particular mobilization likely isnt a big deal or in any way tied to the current fight between TX and the Fed Govt..

Different guard units from different states rotate through as a matter of routine (typically aviation units or scout units).. typically in small numbers.. 1 or 2 helos and their crews.. or 1 or 2 scout vehicles and their crews) and assist the border patrol and ICE with locating illegal border crossings.. and are normally very focused on border crossings tied to narco trafficking..

This started under bush.. continued under clinton.. continued under the next bush.. continued under obama.. continued under trump.. and now continues under biden..

College educated white woman are alienated by Trump when he said " He grubs them by. the p... :)

I can only say that it was a threat of great concern to the US Defense establishment.

“It was” ? It is no longer of concern?

The book “One Second After” however was a great read. The history professor turned local community leader, was an atypical hero figure.

It made me think of a quote I read in the great quotes thread today: "A nation that makes a great distinction between its warriors and its scholars will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools." - Thucydides

I know we're all rough tough bassets here, WE can all survive the EMP, but how many of you have wiped your ass with a snowball? I have. It isn't all that much fun. I lived for 20 years without running water, but most of what I had was safe water delivered from a deep well by an electric pump that I hauled home with my vehicle.
Don't have much point here, just saying I'm not sure how long a lot of us are willing to go on without modern conveniences.

No way to know that, pure speculation.
Speculation?
Please do some research before posting.
There are some very knowledgable people out there not blinded by their political believes.

"wiped your ass with a snowball". Somehow, I now can't unsee that. Thanks! LOL

I don't have a ball or can see the future.
I try to learn from the past and research.
Not from political sources.

And you and others around here are doing exactly the same thing in assuming Russia achieving its strategic goals are of no matter to you or the future of your family. I have tried to offer a lot of evidence why thwarting Russian ambitions is a critical national interest. The counter argument seems to primarily be I either quote "rarified adolescents" (who actually know what they are talking about but don't fit someone's confirmation biases), or someone screams "border."

I have said many times in this conversation that both the border and Ukraine are both critical interests. A great power ought to be able to walk and chew gum. Instead of doing both, we are going to do neither.

I know everyone on the right is high fiving the death of the border compromise. It is far from perfect. But, for arguments sake, I would point out that both the Border Patrol Union and the National Chamber of Commerce support the bill. But thanks to Donald Trump, who desperately needs a chaotic border in an improving economic environment, we will do nothing about it before November, while consigning thousands more Ukrainians to unnecessary death and maiming through inadequate support. And should Biden (or whatever democrat) win in November, that bill my party killed, however flawed, will be a pipe dream after that.

And if you haven't noticed in the last couple of hours, my party has become so completely dysfunctional that it can't even call for and then win an impeachment vote on Mayorkas. Is it just me, or might the deeply religious Mike Johnson be in just a little bit over his head?

Just to round off the day, we shortly will have Tucker Carlson to reassure us what a broadminded and misunderstood KGB agent and current dictator in Moscow is.

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
