Politics

I think I posted earlier in this thread: "I fear for the future of these United States" or something similar. Judging by recent events, are their representatives really representing their constituents, or just looking after themselves ?

Across the street from that cemetery is a bar. The joke is it is the only place in the world where you can drink a cold Sam Adams while looking at a cold Sam Adams.
thats funny :ROFLMAO:

Although, we did go have a cold Sam Adams at the original “Cheers” up the street

These politicians care more about flinging money at the Ukraine ......AKA .. America's proxy war with Russia, then they do about protecting our borders, and the American taxpayer.
If they really want to accomplish something in the Ukraine, they need to join forces, send in the heavy hitters, kick some ass, and send the Russians home with their tail between their legs.

Seems to me, that everyone is afraid of Putin and his threats.
Who might the "Heavy Hitters" be who you think should be sent into the Ukraine to engage in ground combat with the Russians? I would bet the cost of heavy hitters would be far greater financially and in human life than allies enabling the Ukraine. War is expensive. I do not think anyone is afraid of Russia. I think they understand the true cost.

Just saw the following post from Pelosi. What has McCarthy done letting Pelosi have the Speakers office the past nine months. Agree, not much leadership there.

View attachment 561373

I dont think she is occupying the actual speakers offices..

As I understand it, its actually pretty common for the current speaker to allow the past speaker to retain offices in the actual capitol, whereas most congressmen have their offices located in an adjacent building across the street.. Pelosi moved out of the speakers office(s), but was allowed to move into another set of offices inside the actual captiol.. essentially setting her up as more equal than the other pigs (had to take my best shot at an orwellian concept :) )...

The U.S & its stronger NATO allies. Most of which are reluctant to join the fray because of Putin's threats of nuclear retaliation.
Call Putins bluff. Hit the Russians on more fronts then they can defend.
Sooner or later, Ukrainian forces are going to become depleted, then it will be all over, and all that money and hardware sent will be for naught.

Surely you dont believe that nonsense...

The threat of nuclear retaliation is not the primary reason for reluctance.. I'd bet on the threat matrix that its actually pretty low on the list..

Hitting the Russians on multiple fronts would have little to nothing to do with a Ukraine specific objective...

And yes.. sooner or later the UKR forces are going to become depleted (much sooner than later if/when US and Euro support stops).. what does that have to do with the objective? and how is that money and hardware sent for naught?

Its pretty clear to me you dont actually understand the US mission/objective(s) here..

UKR's objective is to regain their lost turf and eject the Russians from their country..

That is not necessarily the US's primary objective..

It's only nonsense in your opinion. Brighter minds then ours have stated what I just posted here .

Enlighten me, and explain in detail exactly what the U.S objective is.?

Ukraine's objective is to regain lost turf, and eject the Russians. How exactly will the Ukrainians accomplish that mission if they run out of military manpower?
At that point, It doesnt matter how much money we give them.

give me a list of those brighter minds... I'd like to know their credentials and qualifications...

Happy to enlighten you on US and NATO objectives and supporting strategic goals (one reference from a politically neutral think tank that is globally regarded.. the other from an established conservative think tank that should appeal to your conservative ideals)..

The point about UKRs objective to regain turf is exactly that.. its THEIR OBJECTIVE... While important to US interests, I assure you that this is not the primary objective for the US (read the linked articles/reports above)..

There is a lot of spew in that article, but very little in the way of U S strategic interest. outside of trying to damage Russia's economic stability. A strategy that has not had the effect that was hoped for.

It’s a preposterous argument…. Whether she owns property in CA or not, it’s clear that the constituents in her area are not the people she knows or would actually represent..

But since when did Newsome care about the people of California actually being represented?

I own a decent chunk of land in Southern Colorado… have had it for 10 years… even have a little cabin on it… and visit it at least once a year or so…

That hardly makes me aware of the needs or desires of the people that live anywhere within a 200 mile radius of that property..

Therefore I shouldn’t be in a position to represent them or govern them..

But.. I suppose it’s legal… so why not?

The people of California get the government and the representation they deserve…

Elect newsome… and this is what you should expect to happen..

This appointment looks like a presidential run in the making instead of anything for the people of California. Blacks make up 6% of the California population. 3% are women. This appointment is a finger in the dyke to hold the black vote together nationally for the Democrats in 2024. Trump is slowly sucking the black vote from the Democrats.

Gavin Newsom did not hand pick the marxist lesbian to replace Feinstein. The Whitehouse did. Newsom is just the messenger.
They have known for quite awhile who they would pick.
The current Democrats motto. The more radical, the better.

Thanks for the clarification.

McHenry certainly felt betrayed by his friends across the isle voting against McCarthy. Kicking Pelosi out of the Capitol and slamming the gavel down like a blacksmith.

Steny Hoyer was also asked to vacate his in the capitol as well. Not sure how that fits your theory.

The small working offices - not the members' actual offices - in the Capitol were reserved as a courtesy for senior members. I think there were only like four of them when I was there. The hike or train rides through the tunnels can be a challenge when on the clock to make a vote, all of which have to be taken on the floor.

Jim Jordan running for speaker.

Let the swamp bitching & complaining commence.

you claimed brighter minds held your opinion.. but failed to provide the names and credentials of those minds as asked..

whether you like it or not, or agree with their positions (or have the ability or willingness to try to understand them) the fellows and experts at places like Brookings and Hoover are truly among the brightest on the planet..

I dont agree with everything published by either of those think tanks (or any well regarded geo political expert or strategist for that matter).. but certainly listening to people with decades of related experience, most of whom have a decade or more of formal and informal education in their specific area of study, who literally study these sort of things as a full time profession, that are relied upon by global organizations ranging from the biggest corporations on the planet, to developed country federal governments, to state governments, city governments, to high net worth individuals looking to make large investments, etc.. so that they can make correct decisions to further the interests of their respective organizations.. is worth consideration..

who again is it that has the brighter mind that has espoused your position?

Thanks for the clarification. I was aware there were offices in the Capitol but didn't realize Pelosi still had an office in the Capitol since Jeffries took her leadership position. I had only skimmed Pelosi's statement and missed the word Capitol.

Kicking Hoyer out as well as Pelosi makes sense. McHenry was hacked at the Democrats for voting against McCarthy and he sent a message.

I am somewhat familiar with Capitol Hill, having worked in Cannon HOB for a Congressman from the 5th District of Oklahoma. I probably even walked by a now famous fire alarm numerous times and was never tempted to pull it. ;)

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
