Globalization worked well post WW2. That was a time when the US had the naval power to manage all of the major sea routes. Over the decades, we have changed to super carrier groups. We aren’t in the same position. I don’t have a crystal ball, but it seems like Trump did a great job with NAFTA 2. I don’t see China being our primary trading partner in 20ish years. Mexico is already our new #1, Canada could be #2 for our potash needs. The US was smart when negotiating after the last world war. Unfortunately, that did lead to an offshoring of manufacturing jobs. I’m of the impression that we are transitioning back to manufacturing more in North America.Well, when the rest of the globe goes to crap so do we. There is no such thing as an isolated, self sufficient USA in todays world. Commodities are all globally traded, we have a fraction of the manufacturing needed to support ourselves, I could go on. It sounds nice, but that ship sailed a long time ago.
My point of view is just skewed off of recent history. I also like learning more about the global economy, so my research and listening to the opinions of other economists has influenced my opinion. I may be wrong based off of who I choose to read/listen.
