the Republicans will need a candidate that has shown capacity to deal with corrupt politicians and organized crime (redundant), so Trump may be the best in terms of doing the job- however I fear it will be too late. I expect China to exert whatever force they can to reduce the USA to a subservient nation and they have a window to accomplish it between now and Jan 20, 2025.

Each to their own, and my path doesn't have to be anyone else's. I have never felt drawn to alcohol. I can have an addictive attitude with other things in life, so that was always kind of in the back of my mind. I have never felt like I need something to help me relax, and I really like remembering when I do stuff. And as an elementary teacher, it was important for me - when I first came to Alaska and was teaching and coaching in small rural villages - for the kids to see you could have fun in life without alcohol. Alcohol is a powerfully destructive force across so much of rural AK. Again, my opinion and the path I chose; I have never, ever regretted it. YMMV

And good on your son. I hope he is loving it up here; there is a lot to love, IMHO.

I have seen several interviews with Gov. Ron DeSantis from at least as far back as 2021 where he plainly stated he was not running for president in 2024.
Can anyone following this thread tell me where to find evidence that GOV. DeSANTIS actually said he was running for POTUS in 2024?

OK, there are legal reasons that Gov. DeSantis can not legally run for POTUS because he is the sitting governor of Florida.
I am asking the members if they have proof of him say that he intended, or wanted to run for POTUS in 2024?
It wouldn't be much of a stretch to get a different impression from reading this thread.

I truly do not understand the point you are trying to make. There is no "proof" one way or another. He has no reason to make an announcement until the last minute and the drama surrounding Trump is a good reason to delay as long as possible. A logical time for a governor would be at the close of the spring legislative session which I believe is sometime in May in Florida.

However, let's not be naïve. He was speaking in Iowa on March 10th not to be neighborly, but because it is an early nomination state.

Having read the past ten pages or so, even as a European, I’m scratching my head about fellow hunters and gun owners on this hunting and gun forum who would refuse to vote in an election because the candidate who is pro hunting and pro guns, is also an unbearable egocentric buffoon.

As far as I know, an election is not voided because less than x % voted? Even if no one else in the US voted, apart from Biden and his wife and children, it would still be a certifiable victory for the Democrats. Not voting, in protest, I get it, but that’s the same as a kid losing at checkers who then runs off crying it’s not fair.

Not voting, is signing away what you love and hold dear for someone else to decide over.

Anyway, needed to get this off my chest.

The point I was trying to make is do not assume anything, especially in politics. If that is naive then I am guilty.

Gov. DeSantis has said that without a doubt Florida will have a different governor in 2026 because a Governor in Florida is not eligible to serve more than 8 years in a 12 year period. I don't have the gov on speed dial so I am only going on what I have seen of him on video. By all means if you have anything other than speculation to add I am all ears.

What some of us (IMO) are trying to project on Trump:

We voted for him (twice). He lost and took Republican control the house and senate with him. Many (or most) of his candidates lost in the mid-term - thereby loosing the senate again. This is a huge deal!

He is now - and will continue to be a looser - we want to vote for a (pro gun, conservative) Winner!
We won't get there by twiddling our thumbs and going along with the pro Trumpers.

Plus he appears to be dangerously vindictive and comes across as bat-shit crazy at times.

We all have our lines in the sand, on anything really (ex: How many fenced acres are enough acres to be fair chase?) For example, when I vote, one of mine is abortion. If a candidate supports abortion, there is zero chance they will get my vote, whatever else they might or might not support.

In the case of Trump, it's past one of those lines for me. I know some say the morality aspect shouldn't matter but for some of us it does. I find him to be so repugnant, recalcitrant, and vindictive that I will not vote for him. As I stated earlier I am not convinced that the effective Trump of 2016 is what we would be getting anyway. I want someone who can get things done and do it with a reasonable level of honor, for lack of a better word.

Both choices, if indeed they do become our choices, suck monkey balls. I am afraid that either choice, if elected, represents a slippery slope to bad choices becoming the norm.

No one can say but the governor himself. However it’s curious the amount of time he is spending in places like New York. Being quoted constantly in the national press. Maybe it’s just us putting our hopes on him, but I think he’s an active participant.
