New USA requirements in addition to the form 4457

a lifelong Republican is much like a lifelong Conservative when it comes to working for the government. I tend to see them as Species At Risk.

Not so sure anymore if lifelong Republican equates to lifelong Conservative.

I'm Canadian so your Republicans are like our Conservatives. That said you are quite correct as we have Rino's south of the border and Cino's up north

I just found and read this whole thread at once! What a fine mess! I said after my last trip over just last summer that traveling with guns is getting to be more trouble than its worth and this will certainly not change my opinion about that. I hope that this can get tossed or at least simplified at some point as I just cannot see myself jumping thru any more hoops to drag my guns overseas. It will be much simpler, easier and faster to just borrow a rifle from the outfitter.
Like to correct one minor point that Brickburn made very early on. The gun walking program that occurred while Bush was President is not the same as the one that happened under the current occupant of the WH. The one under Bush was terminated WHILE Bush was STILL in office. Our illustrious man-child Odumbo gave his AG, the worthless, liar Holder, the go ahead to start another operation, FAST and FURIOUS. The one under Bush had a different name that escapes me at the moment but they were not the same. Just for clarification purposes.

Thanks Scott. Governments never learn. Did not work last time, so let's try it again. It will turn out differently, right! o_O

I'm sure Einstein was thinking of government when he defined insanity "repeating the same thing over and over expecting a different result"

I had a somewhat amusing experience coming back from New Zealand. When I went through customs they checked my rifle and customs form everything was great. My gun was checked through to Kansas City but they had me recheck it again at United. Now it looks to me if it got through customs why did it not go on through like the rest of my luggage which is exactly what they did on my two previous trips to Africa. So then I had to carry my rifle all through the San Francisco airport. Going to a couple different places to finally get it on the plane. Good thing I had a six hour lay over. Talk about getting looks from people. I quess that is just California for you. I felt it was not all that safe. The rifle was checked by a customs guy good god put the damn thing on the plane.

My brother is a recently retired USFW agent. I do kid him that my taxes paid his salary and now his pension. So, at least I figure I'm getting that out of my 'tax investment'!

Back on point. I filed for EIN and following the instructions I posted yesterday, stated its purpose was to 'Fulfill Federal Requirements'. I don't expect to ever have to file a tax return by following those IRS instructions. The EIN was quite easy. Also, today I got on to AES and setup my account with them. Tomorrow I will file for my 'shipment' and see how that goes.

Wide Receiver

I just went to AES to set up my account. It is obvious from the questions on the form that an individual traveling to hunt with a firearm is NOT the intended user of this system.

I don't have a D&B number or a Corporate Address, etc.

So basically we have to set up an EIN number? I went on to AESDirect and was not able to set up an account because I don't have an EIN...but from reading other posts it sounds like I am about to become a self proclaimed business?

See the file I loaded the other day which has the instructions from the IRS on how to file to get an EIN for use on AES. If you can't find it, PM and I'll send it to you.

AN EXPORT LICENSE IS NOT REQUIRED
With less than three firearms or 1,000 rounds of ammunition there is a license exemption available.

Anyone who falls into this category MUST file the electronic export information in AESDirect.

Prior to departing the U.S., you MUST verbally declare the items to U.S. Customs and Border Protection and provide confirmation that the electronic export information was submitted into AESDirect.

Additional information can be found at the U.S. Department of State's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls' website.

Ok, so a few points here.
1. !@$@#%$^^&%#$#Q$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:E Red Hot::E Red Hot::E Red Hot::S Bs Flag::S Rant::S Rant::S Rant::Rage::Rage::Rage::Rage:
2. This is impossible to do on your own, I've tried for several days.
3. Thank God I'm a SSI client and Bob THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS FOR US!!!!!
4. ActionBob, thanks for bringing this to our attention, I'd been up shit creek if you'd not said anything.
5. I wrote a very unhappy email to mt Senator. I'm sure it wont do any good but we'll see what happens.
6. will be calling SSI Monday morning to see what they need from me, I'm probably driving them nuts at this point.
Hey Buddy, I completely agree, I also am a SSI client Bob told me they will contact us when they are ready for us. Can you believe all this crap!

It appears to me that even if an individual is using the services of SSI, Coppersmiths, Travel With Guns, Gracy, or whoever........an individual will absolutely have to have a sole proprietor EIN in order to get the ITN # to be legal. I was hoping this was wrong, but I don't see any way around it after reading, re-reading, researching everything I could find on the subject.

I wrote every congressman, representative, local politician I could as well. I haven't heard squat back from these bottom feeding loser politicians, except for one form letter that had absolutely nothing to do with the subject. Not surprised there.

Hope your wrong...I think it's a little bit of a waiting game right now. How do you get that #?

So I just attempted to complete the NEW SHIPMENT form on the AES system. Getting started was a challenge, be aware that EDIT opens the system for you to start the completion of the documents, from there it is downhill. Obvious this system and new ruling was not designed for the average person to complete, nor was it set up for just the temporary export for personal weapons out of the US. I had a question regarding the consginee at point of destination...SO, I called the AES, guess what...leave a message recording, not a problem, BUT the Mail Box is full. I think there are so many Goblins with this requirment that it will be a mess IF it is enforced. Just need to wait and see, MY money is that it is waived or simpler methods are utilized. Leaving in 67 days, got the time to see how it turns out. I would like to see a directive from Customs as to that it WILL be enforced and beginning date and specifics on how it is being handled on the Customs side of the table. That regulation has been there for a number of years, why enforce it now? Is this a kneejerk reaction on our part to one comment from a Custom Officer as in the first thread? No update from the SCI or NRA, why not.

I think your right it will get simpler or waived. I am leaving in September and I will wait to see what Robert from safari Specialty importer comes up with, as he is also gathering info for his clients.

So your saying we the average hunter with 2 guns and 80 rounds of ammo are exempt?

Areaonereal,
I talked to someone at AES concerning the same issue and was told to use my name and the address of the place I was going.Once I completed the docs and submitted them I was emailed the ITN in about 10 min.Of course you have to sign up for email alerts.

Johnnyblues,

You are exempt from needing an export license but you still have to submit what they call an EEI to obtain the ITN number to give to customs. It is a pain in the neck but you can do it yourself without paying a broker.I couldnt even find a broker that would have anything to do with it anywhere near me so I pretty much had to figure it out out of necessity.(Im flying in 3 weeks).

This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
