My baby got a haircut

I have never had a need for supressor on a hunting rifle, or DG rifle.
But thats just me. If I take it to the range, I will use hearing protection. If I am hunting, I will manage without that.
I would prefer a rifle, or DG rifle to be of short-ish size, but without affecting original designed barrel length. I would prefer DG rifle to keep iron sights, for emergency situations in the bush, and with that to have scope QD mounts, and iron sights zeroed and tested on short range.
Attaching a suppressor on a rifle is personal choice, I have no issue with that, but having my already conservative views, this all brings me further away from the original idea of having iron sights, and standard lenght barrel fire arm.
So, not for me.

Having said that: most probably DG can be hunted with anything: bows, revolvers (possibly pistols), and suppressed rifles where legal. And with PHs back up gun, in condition 1, ready for
The nail in the coffin for me was my ph… he actually prefers clients shoot suppressed, even on dg. Good enough for me.

Do you have provisions for attaching a front sight or is the rear sight just holding until relieved? I thought about cutting mine to 16" and moving the sights back for the option to suppress when I wanted to. I felt like the .375 needs maximum velocity to maintain what it needs to be the effective and ranged killer. Maybe if it were a straight wall, but killing the velocity on the .375 is killing the magic.

My smith told me I can reattach the front sight if desired, I opted not to as I could never imagine running qd rings anyway. I’m told the shorter barrel will have a minimum effect on velocity… not sure about 16 inches though

It’s just common courtesy at some point… why the hell would I want to go deaf?
Where are you hunting this animal? Genuinely curious where a PH would offer that advice.

I would never hunt DG with a rifle without an open sight follow-up option. All of my scoped rifles for Africa (and most for everywhere else) use detachable telescopic sights and mounts. Several are Blaser, many are Talley, and several are claw. All work perfectly.

I will be in the eastern cape, on the coast. My ph will be backing me up with his 500 double.
