Jim Green Boots Report

Please keep me posted on which one you like better. By looking at them, I seem to favor the Rangers vs. the Barefoot version. I like a bit more sole on the heel. Might help me look taller. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
I’ve always worn a traditional boot when I wear a boot, but quite often I am barefoot and in flip-flops

I was a little torn. I prefer the looks of the traditional boot better, but I am wondering if the barefoot may not be more comfortable and what I’m used to.

I snagged a pair of bronco leather rangers at DSC… The rep advised a 1/2 size smaller for the non-barefoot model and trying them on this proved to be true. Since then, I ordered a pair of Numzaan dress boots, a pair of brown Shoelies, and a pair of barefoot rangers. They the best shoe/boot for the money that I have tried! Love em!

I’m really intrigued by these but concerned about the width. Does anyone with a foot on the more average width foot have any experience they can relate?

I wear a normal D width shoe… I’ve never purchased any shoes or boots in a “wide” size. I’m just finding that my foot is feeling so much better in a shoe that lets my foot relax. I’m not planning to wear them elk hunting but daily wear and working in the shop when I blacksmith, they are proving wonderful.

How would you rate the Jim green on quite stalking boots compared to the Wildebeest boots?

I can’t decide if I want to hunt in my rangers or not, gotta get insoles before I can make my final decision

Mine are starting to get broken in, but I still get a hot spot on my left fourth toe after wearing them all day. Got curious as to why the right boot fits better and it seems they are inconsistent with the toe box. The right boot has more height to it. Anyone else have this issue? I’m beyond the return period or I’d try another pair. Going to try the boot stretcher method mentioned previously to see if I can dial it in.

I tried on both the ranger and the barefoot (zero drop) ranger at SCI. I wear a size 10 in almost any leather boot and am generally a D width. For reference Danner tannicus boots fit me like a glove in size 10. I have relatively high arches as well.
The barefoot fit the best as it felt slightly narrower in the heel and mid foot. I also like the sole better than the standard African ranger. These are the “Bronco” leather and take a little more breaking in than the fudge leather. I did add a very thin superfeet insole for more arch support. The soles are extremely quiet and grippy. I did a three mile off trail hike through the woods and they were great. I actually submerged my foot in water and the leather seemed to shed the water and dried very quickly. Overall I really like the flexibility and fit of the barefoot bronco ranger

At SCI I tried both the ranger and barefoot, I have a high arch and a d with foot, both boots fit well in the heel but the toebox my foot had enough room for my foot to slide around. which is almost a sure fire set of blisters for me. They showed me how to order a custom boot that has a D last/ My only question is how quite are the soles? I have a pair of wildebeest boot that are stalking quite. Before i order a custom boot I want be certain that they are similar in regards to a stalking boot.

Ok….so let me give my initial impressions after walking a bit in the woods with my new African ranger barefoot. @PARA45

First, I tried the standard ranger model but with my left foot being slight longer than the right, the hard toe box on the standard was killing my big toe nail. The barefoot model has a soft toe box and feels great to my foot.

I would say the sizing on the boots seem pretty standard. I have tried them on and worn them with my favorite sock. People socks below zero quarter sock. An Ideal height with these boots too. They are medium thickness daily wear merino wool blend. If you haven’t tried them, I highly recommend them….

I go barefoot around the house, yard, boat and unless I’m in the woods, I wear flip flops, year round. A luxury of living in the Deep South. I can say for me, the barefoot model may be the most comfortable boot I’ve worn. One of those ah ha moments where I thought I never knew what I’d been missing in a boot. I don’t know who is responsible for the barefoot boot movement but I’m grateful.

The principle behind a barefoot boot is that our modern foot wear constrains the toes and the arch support weakens the muscles in the foot to where we become dependent on it. I had never heard of a barefoot boot and had to do some research.

That said, and with my normal barefoot mode, I don’t feel any need whatsoever for arch support or an insole. In time, I believe the leather inner of the boot will mold slightly to foot.

I will also say they may be the lightest and quietest boots I’ve worn. My normal boot being a Danner sharp tail, light in its own right.

The quiet comes from two places. The construction of the boot and the feel it allows. The sole is soft and flexible and has no insole or steel shank. This, in my opinion makes you feel more ‘connected’ to the ground. I found that walking in the thick leaves in a hardwood bottom on my property that I would feel a stick under the leaves before i put enough pressure down to snap it and make noise. Does that make sense?

The leather seems to be of above average quality with good stitching and resoleable for years of use. The lower needs no break in for me but the uppers are a little stiff but already better from a couple short walks with the dogs.

I believe the best advice I could give to anyone considering the ranger are to get a pair of both and try them on side by side. The difference was amazing to me. Also, they will make custom boots on their website as @112Savage mentioned. You can pick leather sizing and they even said the would do me a pair in a half size bigger on one side.

Let me end by just saying one more time….try both pair and wear them around the house before making a decision. I think you may be surprised.

@CBeck your description of quite stepping on branch and feeling it vs breaking is the exact feedback I needed. Thank you!

I’m glad I could be of help. I do think that as the boots get worn in a bit more, and the sole becomes more flexible that the ground sensations will become better but so far I’m pretty impressed with these.
