Is this SAKO 85 Control Round Feed

Let me elaborate why I say a 85 is not a true crf...
It is basically a pushfeed with half the bottom off the bolt ring machined away. This allows the case rim to slip into the bolt face and under the extractor. This only happens when the cartridge is out of the magazine and almost chambered. On a true crf the case is under control from the getgo for the entire feeding operation.

Try cycling the bolt about half way and pull back....the cartridge will stay behind do the same with a true mauser crf and see what happens

Using an abused Sako camp rifle is minimal experience with rifle at best. I’ve seen a CZ 550 camp rifle with a rusted barrel. All CZs must be junk because someone didn’t clean the barrel at end of season? I’ve seen a Winchester model 70 release the floor plate during recoil. They must all be junk too? I’ve found posts where you previously called Sako 85s good rifles. What changed besides reading about some issues? Sako 85s in 375 have magazines by the way not hinged floor plates. They won’t drop the shells at your feet.

It's true Sako 85's in .375 don't have floorplates, they have removeable magazines. I also can't imagine one falling out without a fair amount of user error.

No matter what your decision is regarding the Sako 85, I doubt it would work as a 458 Lott anyway. The XL action is too wide for the smaller 458 Lott cartridge, in comparison to the 416, 450 and 500J it was offered in. The feed rails would most likely not work out in your favor. The 375 action won't work due to the detachable magazine that came on these rifles. There is a "bump out" welded into the magazine that lines up with the neck/shoulder of the 375 H&H cartridge. This prevents the cartridges from slamming forward into the front of the magazine. I've played around with mine in the past, and a 416 Remington won't even work. The 458 Lott would be more of the same.

If your dead set on a Sako 85 in a 458 caliber, you'd probably be miles ahead if you could find one in 450 Rigby. Otherwise, I'd go with a Winchester 70.

I do not intend to have a .458 Lott built from SAKO action of any type… Wasn’t really intending for that to be a part of this conversation. As I was researching actions, their feed and extraction types, I noticed comments about SAKO 85 issues. Then I started looking further into some of the actions and how they function on my rifles. That said, I realized I’ve never had issue with ejection on my 375 H&H SAKO 85 and decided to ask the collective group the question about SAKO being CRF and whether or not LH had anything to do with it. Also, realizing I’ve had no real knowledge or experience building rifles or hadn’t given much thought to research, that I should try to glean a better understanding…

So you only advise the use of an action of a rifle that is still in production for a custom build?

Yes many rifles are shite for dg use.....

No it does not.....it puts the scope 90 degrees out of the position it was designed to be fitted to a normal rifle....if you consider that fixing the issue that the rifle has well then good for you......try that with a German nr 4 reticle and see how that works out.....

I don't have a dog in this fight but it would suck to be limited to a duplex reticle only, not to mention illumination.

This is not the first Sako 85 thread. He doesn’t miss an opportunity to criticize the rifle. Write about your Sako 85 and add some value.

My sako 85 works fine, but it’s been worked over by a good smith. Many people are the kind that are once bitten twice shy type and I fully understand that because I’m the same way. People like what they like and trust what they trust. To me that’s pretty easy to understand.
