Well, fess up. How many of you hunt with your Blaser in Africa.
I own a couple and love them.
I have taken them twice to Africa - all good, no issues.
I have hunted Alaska with one and North America.

I get a lot of questions but when they feel it and handle it, most guides/PH's like the "feel".

I like the shorter overall rifle package. I have the thumbhole stock version and love that as well.

What say you???

I live in africa and own blasers
Its my daily gun

I'm expecting my GunFoam case tomorrow which is cut to accept 3 barrels, 3 scopes, 1 stock w/bolt & trigger installed, extra bolt & 2 mag inserts. Will be smaller than my V800 case for getting around airports and hotels, much nicer foam quality, and lighter weight overall.
Please share photos when you get it. Which case did you use? Did you save a blueprint of that order? I might want to duplicate it.

Perfect combo and I have the same barrels. I also like the 375 barrel for a one gun trip. I'm taking 416 barrel and a 22 Hornet K95 for next trip.

Yes. RSA, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, and Tanzania with mine. I think from a PH/safari pov the decocker is one of the best features. Being able to safely carry the gun loaded in a DG area where it is truly necessary gives great piece of mind.
I am about to hunt AK with mine. I may cry if it gets messed up there!

As of right now, we have not hunted Africa with our R8's. If things go to plan, we will be in SA a year from now with JKO Safaris hunting buffalo and PG. When we do go, this is how we will pack them...

I used a GunFoam (GF-4514) with a custom foam insert and it cost me about $400 total. This is similar in size to a Pelican 1720 that goes for $335 with the regular open cell foam that comes with them, not custom fit.

GunFoam doesn't currently allow you to "share" a blueprint or foam insert layout. I've spoken with them about this, and they are working on a 2.0 revision that will enable several features that will make things easier. Currently you can only save the items you have uploaded or use one of their existing designs. BTW - No Blaser R8 in their library, mostly handguns and the like. Not sure what they can currently do to accommodate this request, but you can give them a call to see. Maybe they can load the pictures @xbr897 took to your profile so you can arrange them.

I didn't know that GF sells cases also. That's a good price for custom foam and case. I will have to consider that.

Love that setup - will have to get one for my R8

If you are doing just a single stock, I'd recommend going with the GunFoam case GF-3714 that is nearly identical in size to the Pelican 1700. You will be able to fit one stock, two barrels, two scopes with ease. Send me a DM if you have any questions.

The one I have is just a tad bigger to accommodate Mrs BeeMaa's beautiful timber stock & 300WM Selous barrel. ;)

Hunted with R8 taking 6.5 PRC & 300WM barrels for recent plains game hunt, it worked great. Heading back soon with 375H&H and 300WM barrels for buffalo hunt in Moz with possible Kudu/Sable if we get Buff and have extra days. So easy to travel with variety of barrels.

Did you make a template for this or use a premade one on the website?

I haven’t taken mine to Africa YET! In fact the only thing I’ve shot with it so far is a coyote with the 9.3x62. I love the rifle. Recently ordered my fifth barrel, if that’s any indication of what I think of the R8.

There are three serious choices for hunting in Africa. I admit that.
This is not in any particular order.
1. Double rifle
2. Mauser 98 and clones
3. Blaser R8.

Nothing else is serious choice, but will work on a safari or two, including rental camp guns.
That being said, and I am conservative and traditional hunting type.
Financial priorities prevent me for obtaining proper double rifle, Blaser is not my cup of tea (too modern and advanced for me, with full appreciation to its features, straight pull system, shorted action due to mag placed over the trigger, mount system, exchangeable barrels, accuracy, modularity and various stock option, etc), but in any case I stuck with mauser.

nevertheless, it is excellent choice and more and more hunters choose blaser r8, which also features easy to travel way with short light case. I never heard for a blaser failure in the face of dangerous game animal.
We also face general lack of big bore calibers in factory guns on the market, but with blaser there is no such shortages, all calibers are available. So it seams, blaser is high end factory solution for everything.
I too prefer the Mauser, and its derivatives, and being a southpaw find older Winchesters and newer Rugers to be the cat’s meow.
I like older action designs but modern McMillan stocks. Talk about a conundrum.

Here’s my current brace of R8’s. 458, 416, 375, 9.3x62 and the extra barrel is a threaded 300 Win Mag. Having used the R8 in Zim twice now, I’d be hard pressed to think of bringing a different rifle on future safaris. Just works so perfectly for travel.

Leaving for a DG hunt in Zimbabwe in a couple of weeks… the top one is a Blaser…but not a R8…

I hope this two-gun setup serves me well…

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
