How many is too many?

The answer to the OP's question can only be answered with a question-how many calibers are there? Might have to add, how many different models are there in each caliber?
Had to go look, which is a good problem to have. Except when you find missing calibers that one has ammo for, but hasn't yet acquired the peashooter to go with it. Need to rectify a few of those. This is just a good start imo...

Sometimes I just get jealous to hear how many rifles you guys have, In South Africa it is difficult getting that many as it is a hell of a process to get it licensed. So if that isn't holding you back, I don't think you can ever have too many....

But if all are special then none is special. I will be a one double person, hunt in close, as in hunt.

I tried to do some searching and didn’t see anything on the topic. I was wondering what other people’s thoughts on different calibers in a collection. I’m a wildcat nut and I’m always looking for new calibers. So in your idea how many different calibers is too many in a collection. As of right now just in rifles I have a lot. I have .223, .243, .270, 6.8 spc .308, 30-30, 7.62x54r, 30-06, 300 win mag, 338 win mag, 338 spectre, 358 winchester, 30 hrt, 45-70, 357 mag, 10mm, 460 rowland, 9mm, 357 sig, 45 acp, .22, 50 Beowulf, 416 rigby, 375 h&h and more I’m sure I’m forgetting. And yes, all the pistol caliber are rifles I have. I can’t stop going after different and interesting calibers.

If you are ultra-cautious and meticulous, there is no limit as to the number of firearms and ammunition types you should own. If you are given to, at least, occasional lapses, you are best advised to own only firearms that won't accept each other's ammunition. A .270 cartridge, for example, will fire in a 7 mm mag with unfortunate results.

Yes you have to be careful with ammo, some years ago my boys & i drove about 30 km from camp to a river to hunt some pigs & at about last light, i could not chamber a round in my 6.5x55 i had brought the wrong ammo i had 7x57 , .My
sons just laughed & said stiff shit dad, we are not going back & continued to shoot the pigs until it was too dark to see.

that’s a big reason I don’t want a 300 blackout. I have a bunch of rifles in 223 and don’t want the chance of a 300 blackout round making it into one of them. I don’t even have 300 blackout ammo around.

i have already started planning out closing in part of my lanai and making it a gun room. It already has 1 block wall and has a door off the master bedroom. I’ll just have to build 2 walls and add a door out on to the lanai. Being all block walls with hurricane rated doors will make for a good gun room. Will also work as a storm shelter room
