I forgot 2 7.62x39 & 303 British, you worry about them going rusty in the humid wet weather of QLD in summer &
storing reloading dies, powder , primers . projectiles ect to feed them all, with time hunting, & at the range & cleaning them i struggle to have time to mow the lawns;)

I see a gap in your collection. You have no big bores.

What? No 375HH? Everyone needs a 375. You gotta have the King of Rifles to complete your collection.

Too many? No such thing.
I'd call anthing under 30 a good start.
Agreed! Keep doing what you enjoy until your run out of Room & $$$ …

I tried to do some searching and didn’t see anything on the topic. I was wondering what other people’s thoughts on different calibers in a collection. I’m a wildcat nut and I’m always looking for new calibers. So in your idea how many different calibers is too many in a collection. As of right now just in rifles I have a lot. I have .223, .243, .270, 6.8 spc .308, 30-30, 7.62x54r, 30-06, 300 win mag, 338 win mag, 338 spectre, 358 winchester, 30 hrt, 45-70, 357 mag, 10mm, 460 rowland, 9mm, 357 sig, 45 acp, .22, 50 Beowulf, 416 rigby, 375 h&h and more I’m sure I’m forgetting. And yes, all the pistol caliber are rifles I have. I can’t stop going after different and interesting calibers.
The classic answer when asked your question “ how many guns do you have?” Correct answer “ not enough”

Gee i thought i had a problem i an only an amateur.

This thread has convinced me I'm not as bad as I thought I was. I only have eight hunting calibers at the moment because over the last couple of years I've made a conscious effort to divest myself of calibers with too much similarity with the ones listed below. I prefer older well proven calibers that have withstood the test of time around the world and not just American favorites. I'm not even remotely interested in any calibers containing the identifiers RCM, RUM, WSM, WSSM, PRC, AI, Creedmore or Weatherby.

Here's my current inventory. I've tried to spread them out with as little redundancy as possible but unfortunately emotion is in play. I stumbled into the 7x64 but it's such a cool rifle I had to have it. I have no logical reason to have 30-06 and 300H&H but there's no way I'm getting rid of either one. I'd rather sell you one of my grandkids (Logan is pretty cool and he doesn't eat much). Same with the 9.3 caliber rifles. One is a bolt and the other is a double but I'm keeping both even though 375H&H takes care of that niche.

What remains can be roughly broken down into 4 groups: Quarter bore, 7mm, .30 Cal and .366/.375. I'm working on adding a 404J to fill the .40 cal category. There's another thread discussing how to fill the gap between 30 cal and 375. Personally I don't see much of a void there but if I did I'd probably fill it with an 8x57 which I'd kind of like to have anyway. YMMV.

Well I don't rightly know exactly. That's the shame of it. Folks ask and I find myself lost in the count. There is a high side to this argument though. When one goes to the safe and forgets that you have something it is quite amusing to find the perfect gun waiting for you. Although as I get older, I find that guns that were new to men who no longer speak around the campfire are the best. The new ones are tools lacking nostalgia and sentiment and that causes me great indifference toward them. I think that once a gun has been blooded on game, it becomes a part of an elite circle within the safe.

You forgot to mention your profession is that of museum supervisor?

But kidding aside, that is one impressive listing of calibres!

One thing I noticed: a “Bi-Whelen”? Didn’t know the Whelen existed in a bisexual flavour!

We 'll visit Livingstone / Vic Falls for 3 days and 2 nights. Back to Mapcha by car, back to WDH with Airlink (grab my rifles and belongings) and the same day back to Frankfurt.
What do you mind from your own experience ? and your wife .? Did she appreciate ?
We already hunted Namibia in 2022, May for PG near Outjo for 8 days. Great country.
Thank you for your advises.

Hello Cecil
I am Philippe from Center of France. I plan to hunt Zambezi with Zana Botes in 2026, Oct after a couple of days for PG in Namibia in his lodge. I will be with my wife. She is not really a huntress and we promised to go visit Vic Falls. I imagine to go to Caprivi by car , hunt there 7 days (for buff) and go by car to Vic falls (PH will bring back my rifle) . sorry I am required to write 2 messages
