Hornady CX

I kinda wonder how those would do on Buffalo. I know that the conventional wisdom is 300Grain bullets...but the monometals are large for weight anyway and the increased velocity should make up for it, penetration wise. I think that bullet would equal a 300 grain lead core and should be good for buff.
I think you’re probably correct as monometals penetrate above their weightclass. I would like to see some evidence that the CX bullet is as well constructed as BARNES however. I wouldn’t be the first to try it out on a buffalo. I choose 300gr Barnes softs/solids for my upcoming trip to Zimbabwe. it’s hard to not take something so proven.

Buffalo Bore makes an interesting 270gr monometal flat point option too.

I'd want to try it out first up close on something like a 500 lb cow elk, or plains game of same size or larger and hopefully recover the bullet. I'm thinking cow elk because where I hunt sometimes you can put the Big Sneak on and get within buffalo range.

I just got back from SA and Namibia and took 15 animals with the 150 gr CX ammo in
the 7mm Rem Mag.

Recovered only 4 of them, and those recovered look just like the ones in Horandys ad.

appears to be a tough n deep penetrating bullet.
I'd use thena gain.

What animals did you take? and which did you recover the bullets from? Have had very good luck with the GMX bullets, wondering if the CX is the updated form of the GMX.

Yes it is.

I took a variety of plains game from Impala,
Blesbok, Wart Hogs to
Blue and Black Wildebeest, and Gemsbok.

All broadside shots exited, and the recovered bullets were all from frontal or quartering towards me
with 30 plus inches of penetration.

Signed in. I’m wondering if there a little softer Barnes ttsx? Might open up a little better at lower velocity’s.
I know I'm late answering your post and you probably know by now, just in case, Barnes LRX bullets have a higher ballistic coefficient than the TTSX. The LRX doesn't require the same velocity to expand and it extends your hunting range by about a couple of hundred yards. They tend to lose petals if they hit a target at high speed but penetrate every bit as well as the TSX and TTSX.

That’s good info. Thanks!

I took an Impala, Eland, Wildebeest and Gemsbok. and yes I think it is a updated GMX, as I've used them too with the same results.

I've been on two hunts where they were used last year. They don't expand as much as TSX was what I noticed.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
