Good Gun Deals This Week

I see at least 7 "flaws" that put me off this one but I will leave the comments to the pros...
Thanks @IvW , I noticed the following:
- No sling barrel band
- Actually no stud for the rear sling either
- not a straight stock, but more of a pistol grip with a comb. Better executed than most perhaps, but not the more traditional straight stock either

What else did you see?

Stock design terrible
No swivel stud or barrel band
Non straight bolt
Push feed action
Real bad scope mount system, scope way to high(more than likely due to known ejection issues)....
Very strange position of second cross bolt
Fragile fibre optic front sight

Just to name a few.....

The owner of this gun store also produces his own custom rifles and guns from actions he purchases in England. He used to work for Purdey (and a few other British houses if I'm not mistaken). He is currently refinishing (removing scratches and dents where possible and then putting a London hand rubbed oil finish on it) of my Dumoulin. (in the end I didn't dare take a piece of sandpaper to it, no matter how fine, or some chemical to take the oil out. )

So this could be a Ruger M77 that he personally restocked/repaired/etc. (side question, aren't M70's more wanted than M77's for African rifles?)

You mention the stock shape looking CZish, but CZ is more with a hogsback stock I thought (which I do not really like) while this looks more like a straight stock with a cheek comb.

I'm not sure I'll be able to get close-ups on the receiver and bolt, but I can ask about the lineage of this rifle.

Thanks for the info already @C.W. Richter ! Might have some more questions for you later on! ;)
Yes. I have one nice 77 (nothing wrong w/ em aside from the 7.5 lb factory trigger pull and rough (like there's still rubbing compound or sand in the action) when new. After accurization and good going over, they are shooters! The buttstock drops off just like a CZ/BRNO. No American stocks are configured like that (see my prior pic.) Nearly all custom rifle mfrs in America sell the classic straight butt stock (but it's not right for all guns.) A drop in the butt causes more recoil, which has an effect on accuracy. The gun you feature is very nice!!! I like the crossbolts (the front one is way forward, but still very nice!) Ruger improved a few things on the Mauser standard (one thing that comes to mind is the front action screw has a slight angle, to keep the action better mated to the stock under recoil-akin to a screw which additionally functions a lug!)

That is not a push feed action on that rifle.
In 1968 Bill Ruger announced his Model 77 with an aggressive claw. But those first M77 extractors were made to hop the rim of a chambered round, not suck it from the magazine.

The Ruger 77 Mark II, circa 1992, had controlled-round feed. It joined a new Winchester Model 70 from the New Haven custom shop. This 70, while retaining some post-64 features, wore a Mauser claw that worked like the original but was beveled to jump the rim of a chambered cartridge. In 1990 Winchester put this action into production, cataloging the rifles as Super Grades.

Why men are attracted to beautiful-only women. LOL Buyer Beware! Looks can Kill. The 1st 77s were NOT CRF. They were the first, documented variant of the poser. lol

And (had to) cast, not forged. :( Paul Mauser: 1 (100 yrs earlier!)

A bit off subject but possibly the worst scope mounting job I have ever seen. Wow, somebody probably bloodied their eyebrow! You should always mount a scope as far forward as possible without losing the full view of the scope magnified image. Makes for better cheek weld as well.
the laws of probability & statistics say that it "could've" been Shaquile O'neil or Manute Bol's gun (with a pull-length of several cubits!) LOL :p The scope rings seem to have about 3" of relief! LOL I'd say the scope screw-tightener never test-fired it, or has quite the opposite of a protuberant brow! :p

@rookhawk i noticed a post a few back about the Dakota with a mercury recoil reducer in the foreend. Is that common? Would that pair with a second in the butt? I’ve not read about that before.

@krish it is not too difficult to avoid buying another rifle in 2022. Just start buying ammo instead.

I just happened to move to MO. Show Me. lol
Never, EVER had a M98 lock up on me (with hot handloads for 40 yrs) let alone blow up in my face like a Blackhawk! ;) That's just 1 cute example...IF they were afraid of trigger pull, there are deeper issues lurking. 'Just saying. I myself have no sales angle (or legal issues affecting same)...And, inventing cartridges that do the exact same thing as predecessors (and less) don't interest me. I'm a hard sell. No JB for me. "Ohhhh yes, it seems my baggage was lost and I need some RCM in blah, blah, blah caliber! You don't have any??"

Dakota's were an entirely different species than factory guns. They would do anything you wished for a buck! Fine guns! Hg reducers are "worth their weight" in otherwise heavy-recoiling guns. Weight is your friend in DG hunting!!!

You can make out the claw extractor if you zoom in. It’s just jewelled to match the bolt.

I just keep minimal ammo on hand. But keep components to roll them as needed.

Post divorce in '98 I resolved to buy at least one gun a year. Since then, I've had to fight the urge for one per month for more than a couple years.....I understand the affliction.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
