Forget Cape Buffalo when we have these monsters at home

Don’t pet the fuzzy cows

There are occasional tags available for Wood Bison in the Northwest Territories. Bulls of this subspecies occasionally reach weights close to 3000lbs making them almost as large as gaur!
i doubt in the wild a wood bison can reach 3000 lbs ...

but even at 2200 lbs that is huge especially when you are only 2 working on the beat ...

insane a bison hunting by river ... you might have some canoes just for the meat ....

A couple goodly rafts. Not that much different than packing a moose.
I love it when Outsiders tell us we're stupid.

we have otc for bison here in the yukon and never said you were stupid. just insane to do it by float ... and i hunt them only in winter easier to recover.

How much is American bison considered as dangerous game, wounded or not wounded?

Do the American hunters consider this as American DG, maybe like grizzly bear?

There are also ranch bison, and wild bison. Any difference in DG department between the two?

I have never heard anyone opine that bison are dangerous game.

Some of the cape buffalo on Texas ranches can act just as docile. But those bison from truly wild herds are said to make for a truly challenging and rewarding hunt.

From n=1, in a rare tag environment (which is almost every case in US public land), it’s basically only slightly more challenging and dangerous as walking up on and shooting a moo cow.

I reckon more Dangerous & challenging than the White Rhino, which shouldn’t even be called dangerous game it’s self !

Bison are usually only dangerous when crowding a cow with a calf. Or in the summer during the Rut. July ish.

I used to raise Bison and those were the only situations when I found them to be dangerous. Similar to domestic beef cattle. But they are very curious and fairly intelligent.

Hunting fair chase bison is very challenging. More a spot and stalk hunt.

Cape Buffalo is a whole different hunt. Tracking, finding the right bull and getting in and then flanking herds or several animals.
They have more of an attitude than Bison. And seem to be crafty when pressured.
