Electric cars are not as great for the planet as we are told it would seem....

I think EV's will continue to grow, but like Ford stated in the US, there is a massive market for rural, farm, work, outdoors crowds that can't be serviced by electric stations until a massive infrastructure is created. Even then, millions of gas/diesel vehicles won't just go away let alone average people spend 2x-10x the cost for an EV to save 1k-3k a year in fuel.

When a company produces a full crew cab 6.5' bed pickup EV with 550 mile range and 500hp and 800lbs torque that can charge in 10-15 minutes with built in gas/fuel generator for emergency power uses while off grid, I may try one. I don't have time to wait 30 minutes let alone 8 hours for charging every 200-300 miles when traveling.
Exactly

On the sea oil replaced coal, which replaced sail, which replaced the slave powered galleys.
On land, shank’s pony gave way to the horse, which yielded to the iron horse which was superseded by the ICE.

you’ll still find sails, horses and steam engines. But they no longer rule supreme.

whether it takes 5 or 50 years for technology to meet public expectations regarding performance and cost is unknown…but that day will come.

time to enjoy the V8 while I still can

Electric cars are a wonderful thing for upper-middle-class Americans but no one else.

A.) Faster acceleration than most supercars, even though 1/10th to 1/20th the cost.

B.) Impress your friends and neighbors

C.) Enjoy a vehicle that's true cost to manufacture is between $150,000-$300,000 but is subsidized by tax credits, manufactured by tax subsidies, and given every unfair advantage over firms that must pay their fair share of tax burdens to operate.

Making claims that they are the future of automobiles is laughable for a variety of reasons, including:

1.) They cannot become more efficient by a factor of ten, the factor they would need to have them make sense. (physics limitations prevent this)

2.) There is not enough rare earth elements to create sufficient vehicles to meet global need.

3.) The only way to power them sustainably and cleanly is to embrace nuclear energy, something that the politics of pro-electric car entities are loathed to do.

4.) They cannot compete on an even playing field because they require the 30% to 50% discount pricing via taxpayer subsidy to be attractive to the market.

This humorous video sums up the electric car nicely:

Don't forget to replace the battery "pack" costs about HALF the absurd amount one paid for the electric car when new! One guy recently set his car on fire instead of paying $22,500 to replace the battery pack, which was half the cost he paid originally for his Tesla. He was told there was a short somewhere in the pack and they couldn't diagnose where it was, so he would have to replace the entire pack. We're not there yet with the cost effectiveness of electric cars.

back when Tesla told Westinghouse of his plan for tapping the unlimited energy from the earth, Westinghouse asked him, “But where will you put the meter?”

same issue today…
On a side note, when our country was in it's infancy with building a national power grid, Thomas Edison wanted to use DC electric power for the grid, which would have required many millions of "boosters" to get the electric power to our homes and factories. Edison thought AC power was too dangerous? Westinghouse promoted AC power which we have today and overwhelmingly the correct choice.

Tesla S battery pack weighs 1200 pounds. Total car weight is a skosh over two tons, same as an F-150 pickup. Kia Forte four door is a little over 3000 pounds. Load that Kia up with a half ton of stone, take it to the grocery store, the fast food joint, or on a trip and check the mileage. I guess the greenies think hauling around over a half ton of dead weight to go get a pizza is energy efficient. From this chair, it's beyond stupid, it's insanity.

I think you mean he said the car "caught on fire" because of the battery pack.

Not only the car is not cost effective I don't believe the implementation and maintenance of infrastructure to support it will be expensive and a large consumption of natural resources,

People generally have no clue about the size of the negative environmental footprint this whole insanity really has. No clue!
The left wing radical environmentalists don't care! They have their agenda and to hell with anyone who disagrees or has to pay for it. They're elitists, many wealthy, and they could care less about you, your family or job. This is what we're facing on this front and MANY others.

Well, "Save the Rainforests" promoter/ actor Harrison Ford, at least once took his private jet somewhere to get an "artisan" cheeseburger? So? Another wealthy elitist wanting the peons to comply with the BS they promote, that they don't have to abide by.

Ha! Ha! Well. he videoed himself setting the car on fire and made Elon Musk "aware" of his displeasure. Maybe he should have went with the former idea? LOL

EV is in its infancy. There will certainly be multiple pain points as the industry grows and evolves large scale. Oil was the 20th and most of the 21st century; green energy will be the 22nd and beyond. The stakes are too high, we know dirty energy is a global warming ticking bomb that will cause billions of people to be displaced and untold amount of money. Glad to see we are beginning to be serouis about trying to reverse course. Long term, we know the planet will survive this and evolve into the next chapter (or page). Humanity, not so much as we are causing our own extinction.

I think hydrogen SHOULD BE the green energy of the 22nd and beyond? But until then, I'm not paying $40k+ for an EV vehicle in it's "infancy" technology, and then having to pay half of that to replace the battery pack! So, after 10 years of ownership, your $40k EV now cost you $60k when the pack needs replaced? Must be revisionist wealth management? LOL My next door neighbor bought solar panels for his home about a year and a half ago. The other day, he asked me if I wanted to buy some solar panels. I said no, but why? He told me he's paying $160/month (probably for ten years) for the panels (which were low end and outdated when installed) PLUS his regular electric bill. He said the panels were supposed to allow him to send 800kw back to the utility company to compensate him for the cost of the panels, but is only sending 200kw or less back. SCAM from the private solar panel company! He's stuck with those outdated panels for years! A FOOL and his money are soon departed! It may be the future, but not for me until it's out of it's "infancy" and is actually cost effective.

I have to laugh at all the politicians and scientists prognostications. Two people can't agree on where to go out for dinner let alone people on a global scale. I figure at some point, the powers that be will be removed from office and this nonsense will go where it supposed to go, in the dustbin of failed experiments. Anyone remember Prohibition?

The globe has been heating up since the last ice age. Capt Cook recorded the position of the ice in glacier bay in the early 1600’s and it has been receding every year since, 300 years before fossil fuels were widely used. That big orb in the sky during the daytime hours is the source of the heat.
The fall of humanity as we know it will be the result of the lose of people willing to work and contribute value to society, to many give me I’m entitled people, not global climate change.
Humans will remain as long as there is food, water and air. It is just to be seen as how they will live.

Well, he must have money to burn.
Make a stand, I agree but we are like a drop in the ocean. Elon Musk is probably to busy to be concerned by him making a stand. Like it's funny if he can afford it and makes his point but it's probably not safe burning batteries.

People have said for years to invest in Lithium. We might have a point but we can only get through to a handfull here who see the logic.

Invest in Lithium and try live out our life's the best we can because it's getting harder.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
