Does anyone here like quarter-bores?

I too love the quarter bores. I have a .257 Bob that is my 'go to' gun. It smacks the coyotes dead at stupid ranges with 75 grainers and kills deer/antelope with 100 grain TTSX like a laser! LOVE ME .257 ANYTHING!

If'n you want to reach out further and hit them that coyotes even further try 85 gn nosler balistic tip or soeer 100gn spbt.
Bob

It sure does. I’d like to get a .25//35 barrel for an encore rifle. I’ve always thought it would be a fun little round, especially with a spritzer shaped bullet.
Speaking of Encores, the .25/06 in a handgun is a terrific performer. It’s performance pretty much duplicates a .257 Roberts in a rifle.
@meigsbucks
If you get an encore barrel then you need to modify the case to get the most out of it. Blow the case out almost straight, move the shoulder forward to create a 1 caliber neck length and a 35 degree shoulder. Will turn it into a different beast and easy to do as it is a rimmed case.

You gotta own it Leslie. Fat girls need love too. Variety is the spice of life. I would say quarter bores are more like the skinny homely girls. ;)
@MS 9x56
The 25 family covers the whole gamut of women.
The 25-20 the skinny homely girl that is nice to have and reliable. The 250 savage and the Roberts ar the al rounders that do all comfortabley and are a pleasure to be seen with. The 25/06 is racy and raunchy without needing the high maintenance up to the super racy high maintenance woman the 257 Weatherby. This one is racy, fast and will burn your barrel out , but you will have a shit load of fun doing it.
The 25s just get the job done no fuss, no bother just quietly plod along. They don't scream from the top of the hill saying look at me and what I can do like the 243 and the 6.5 need more do.

That would make it into a speedster. Not too dis-similar to the 7x30 Waters (Great in a handgun). However, I‘m looking at it as is for just a fun little round with some nostalgia to it. Maybe for some coyotes, moderate range groundhogs or maybe a deer, but mostly just to shoot.

Even 8n original form loaded with 75gn VMAX, 85gn balistic tip or a 100gn it will be a very nice rifle.
Bob

Bob the rifle is boring in the right kind of way. Nothing exciting happens the varmints just flop over. The scope mount did loosen up so the scope is taking a turn on the Ruger 338. I have a friend who is a machinist who will sort out the scope base problem.

@Wyatt Smith
Yong mister Smith it is a very easy fix
All you need 8s a drill press,a vice and a 2.5mm drill.
Place rifle in padded vice.
Align the drill with the charger bridge and drill a 2.5mm hole thru the scope mount and charger bridge.
Enlarge the 2.5mm hole in the mount to 3.5 mm
Tap the hole in the charger bridge with a 3mm tap.
Assemble as normal but add a 3mm bolt to the new holes and tighten
Jobs done problem solved.
This even handles the recoil generated by a full power 444 marlin with 280 gn bullets. So it will take the recoil of the 25.

I Do ! I have an Ol Ruger Tanger in a Bell & Carlson stock with a Timney trigger. Has a Bushnell Elite 4x16 on top. Love it :)

First deer I ever killed was with a Ruger #1 in .257 Bob. Killed a couple others with it too. Bought a Savage in 25-06 that shot lights out until it was stolen, but my go to, do everything gun is a .257wby pushing 100gr TTSX’s.

Here’s mine. A Model 70 featherweight in 250-3000.

Go with the Nosler,

I load 95gn Nosler in my wife's .243.

Works for me.

I feel like a bastard son in this crowd, but Ive been a 250-3000 fan for as long as I can remember and Im 87 now...My 1899 take down is my old standby, shot deer and elk with it, also had a rem 722 in 257 Rots some time ago and liked it as well..and inbetween a dozen 99Fs and EGs and a couple of Mausers in 250-3000...

'Had 2 257 Wbys, burned both bbls out, sold, replaced w/ 257 AI (nearly same performance and the bbls last longer!) The deer had little time to complain. Always relatively heavy for caliber (100gr+ but even heavier recommended, and if your twist rate can handle, the 130s are phenomenal in big cases, way out!)

@RayAtkinson at 87 we are just happy to have you here.
I hope you have a lot more shooting to come.

That's what I love about 25s. They have been around a looong time getting the job done without fuss or pomp and ceremony that othe calibers do. It the same for the 35s. They both just quietly do their thing and have a loyal following of hunters that understand life.
