Ray my mother died in 2015. She had the same issues. My father died 11 days later from cancer. Their deaths were hard on my kid sister and I but it was best for both of them. They had suffered enough. I too missed a hunt or at least the best part of it. I was on the way to my cabin for the opening day of the Deer Firearm Season. The first such day I missed in 45 years or so.

Stocks too long for me.
I’m only a little fella.
I’ll send one if you using my 416 later on.
I’ve used a 460 weatherby w 500 grain Bullets.
I was given the nickname if (wait fir it) Rambo !!
The Gibbs takes 132 grains of powder to push the 600 grain bullet! Yikes!

Did the rifle have any feeding issues?

I have had zero problems with the feeding of a full magazine, I am happy so far, and is accurate, 2 shots, 1 inch at 50 yds.

Off topic here, but when growing up, one of my best friend’s father was in the RAF and flew in the Battle of Britain ( don’t remember in a Spitfire or Hurricane)?

Baz 500, I glad your rifle feeds properly. I shot my 404 Jeffery at the range for several months loading it one shot at a time. When I was three months away from departure I thought I better check out the rifle's ability to feed a full magazine. It didn't and I wound up in "full panic" mode. Luckily I was able to get it sorted out in short order and able to use it on my safari as planned.

Would anyone here know the quality of a CZ Brno VZ24 Mauser rifle action? How does it compare with other CZ or Brno model actions? Thank you!

I always load three for that very reason. I want to make sure it's going to feed right out of the box. If I have problems, it gives me plenty of time to iron them out. Three rounds will usually put me on paper, too.

Exceptional steel.. very finely crafted...

I’ve got 2 custom mausers built on VZ24s... a 30-06 and a 35 Whelen... both are great guns..

Thank you so much for your response! The reason I was asking, is that GB has a custom Brno VZ 24 in .416 Taylor for sale. I’ve kinda have been looking for a rifle in this caliber for awhile and this one was just posted. Tarbe was kind enough to offer me a rifle in this caliber for sale, but the lop on his rifle may be a little short for me. The stock on this one on GB looks to be a little longer, although more elaborate than I would really want. The top of the barrel band states 1937? Anyway, maybe you or anyone else on this thread could take a look at it on GB and let me know what you think? If I don’t bid on it, maybe somebody else here would want to, I’m still learning about the CZ/Brno rifles, and I’ve found with all of the experts here on AH, this is the site to learn. Thanks!

I do have one question though, would cross bolts be in order for a rifle of this caliber? Or does the fact that it is in a laminated stock negate the need for them? I guess they could always be added if necessary or advisable.

My 35 Whelen was built on a 1937 VZ24.. BRNO made a TON of rifles for China in 1937 right as the Second Sino-Japanese War kicked off.. (all China bound rifles serial numbers start with a letter P).. These are actually some of the best VZ24's you can find.. they are identical in quality, etc to the VZ24's that were produced for "home" use.. but as a rule saw VERY LITTLE action in WWII.. the vast majority of them went into Chinese warehouses.. and were never deployed.. The Japanese overran almost all of the depots and storage facilities where the VZ24's were stored very early on.. The Chinese never had a chance to put them into service.. When the war ended tens of thousands of the rifles were recovered from the Japanese, still in their shipping crates and soaked in packing grease..

My 416 Taylor is also built on a Large Ring Mauser action (Argentine Mauser.. not a VZ24).. the 98 action is an outstanding foundation for the 416 T in my opinion..

If you can get that VZ24 in 416 T off of Gunbroker at a reasonable price.. I'd be all over that like stink on a baboons butt.. My guess is it is a wonderful rifle..

Yeah I wouldn't know about the crossbolts? I haven't seen any crossbolts run through the receiver on synthetic stocks? Somebody more knowledgeable here on AH would have to answer that question? Thanks!
