AUSTRALIA:

Thoughtful response.

Elderly Hour
Woolworths an Australian Supermarket chain opens early especially for elderly and disabled shoppers during the coronavirus outbreak. This will allow them to shop in peace.
This given the panic buying in the recent past.
Coles will soon begin similar measures.

Most of our local grocery stores are doing the same, as well as the school depts delivering meals with the school buses to those in need

FRANCE:
French citizens who leave home must now carry a document detailing the reasons why, with fines for transgressors.

On March 16, 2020, the Government of France announced measures to minimize contact and travel. A containment system will be put into effect throughout France starting Tuesday, March 17 at 12:00 p.m., for a minimum of fifteen days. If necessary, travel is permitted in the following cases:

  • Between home and work when telework is not possible;
  • To make essential purchases in authorized local shops;
  • For health reasons;
  • To care for children or help vulnerable people;
  • Brief movements near or around my residence for individual exercise or pet care

Read that China isn't keen that we call this the "Chinese Virus" so folks are trying to identify other designations that may be received more positively.
Shanghai Shakes? Wuhan Wobble? Kung Flu? China Calamity? Flu Hung Poo?
All viable options.

A virus is usually named by it's place of origin. The Chinese Virus is fitting. The Communist dictatorship just doesn't want to take responsibility for it.

The side effects of this social distancing panic, is already starting to affect the work available to me. Just when things were getting better......

I was thinking the same thing. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Reckon there's anybody still in France who was alive and old enough to remember what the war years were like under the Vichy government?

There are fewer and fewer all the time.

Around 1995 Tom Brokaw celebrated the Greatest Generation and there was much a do about the 50th anniversary of WWII. In one of the tv interviews at point de hac cemetery an American vet said he hadn't needed a passport to enter France back then like he just had to do the day before. My dad said he wished he had thought to use that line at passport control on previous visits to France and he would remember it for next time he went. Unfortunately he never got to return. The Greatest Generation is fading fast.

Seems the EU has closed the Schengen borders to outsiders.

Kind of like closing the boma after the lions have entered but I guess most countries have done the same.

This may mutate like the Spanish Flu and become more deadly. My Dad told us stories about the Spanish Flu at Camp Funston on Ft. Riley Kansas. Dad said they never caught it because they never went to town. He said neighbors talk to each other at a distance. I live on the same creek by the same base and I ain't going to town.

Our Premier just suggested this as a policy in Alberta.

Social Distancing done OLD SCHOOL!

Individual countries were about to start acting alone so they were forced to close everything.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
