COVID-19 Coronavirus UPDATES, BANS, CLOSURES, ADVISORY, etc.

Interesting article regarding the ROK outbreak.

Patient #31 sure seems to be the "Typhoid Mary" or "Gay Gary" of Korea.

Many people point to the low mortality rate in ROK and say this is due to good testing that encompass most of the infected individuals. I agree with this to a great extent and there is a lot to be said for it. One thing they don't seem to be accounting for is the Church in ROK which at one point was the largest source of infections. The members as I recall were all young adults who are not the primary sources of death. This also needs to be kept in mind when people use the ROK numbers.

Good question Foxi..why is it spreading like wildfire in Europe...Norway too...it is scary...I am in lockdown with plenty supplies...even drive out in the woods to walk the dog...there are probably a lot more infected in the population than we ccurrently know..

The USA stopped travel from China at the end of January. A couple days ago, I don't think the EU had prohibited travel from China. Perhaps I am incorrect, but do you think this could explain a lot.

The cluster effect with CV-19 is pretty interesting. Like little explosions over an area versus a wave.

Very true. When America finally gets its act together and gets people tested, it will be interesting to see how many little explosions appear that we don't know about yet.

South Africa: Statement by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Measures to Combat COVID-19 Epidemic:

We have now declared a national state of disaster in terms of the Disaster Management Act. This will enable us to have an integrated and coordinated disaster management mechanism that will focus on preventing and reducing the outbreak of this virus. We will also be able to set up emergency, rapid and effective response systems to mitigate the severity of its impact.

Following an extensive analysis of the progression of the disease worldwide and in South Africa, Cabinet has decided on the following measures:

Firstly, to limit contact between persons who may be infected and South African citizens.

We are imposing a travel ban on foreign nationals from high-risk countries such as Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Germany, the United S tates, the United Kingdom and China as from 18 March 2020.

We have cancelled visas to visitors from those countries from today and previously granted visas are hereby revoked.

Apparently just announced all cv-19 tests will be free with 1.9mil more tests available by next week. Lowering the barrier to widespread testing can only help us.

One of the most germ-ridden and contagious things is money. Everyone uses it every day and I just had a brilliant idea as to how to eliminate this means of transmission. Why don't all of you nice people out there just send me all those nasty bills and filthy coins. I will be more than happy to dispose of them for you---free of charge. Imagine how much cleaner the world would be if I dispose of all that stuff.

IMO you wont be able to do this alone so I will also volunteer to assist in disposal of all this dirty money, of course to help prevent those from contracting any transmittable disease.:)

All of the health services are recommending not to get tested if you are not symptomatic. In some states (at least a few days ago) you had to get approval to get the test. I can only assume this was/is due to a shortage of tests and/or capacity to process tests.

S Korea has identified lots of asymptomatic people who presumably will self quarantine. It seems that there is general agreement that asymptomatic people can be infectious.

Now that the US is going to have higher capacity to test hopefully we will be able to test seemingly well people. I don’t feel great right now but don’t know if I’m getting sick or it’s my general state of decay. Were testing widely available I would definitely have one.

I have added this at the start of the thread.

March 15.
SOUTH AFRICA (RSA) is closing it's borders to non-citizens of the USA and the UK and a host of others. As well as travellers going through high risk countries.

NAMIBIA has closed all air traffic from Germany and Qatar.

The implications for Safari Season is rather obvious.

The situation is changing constantly and quickly.

Read on to get further details.

Moderator: This thread includes many updates on Border Closures, Airline Shut Downs and other restrictions. Please add useful topical information.

Wow I know a guy on the way to Namibia. Hope he gets there.

The virus hit China hard in December of 2019. I suspect there are people in the U.S. that knew it was coming here but didn't want to screw up the end of pro football season, the Super Bowl, Daytona 500 and holiday travel season.

My 2¢, letting this fester and get to where we are now was/is all about the money that would have been lost in a lockdown.
We just had to get those sports venues and holidays out of the way.

So much for PHASA . . . no visa, no visit, and even if one isn't necessarily, most hunters come from the countries banned. This better change soon or game ranchers can add the year of no hunters to the past years of no water.

Still up on the PHASA website. o_O

I believe that such a noble and selfless offer is worthy of international support.

I therefore volunteer to accept, and appropriately dispose of, any parcels of filthy Yankee dollars that are sent to me. PM for details.

Hopefully, the world's best researchers will come up with a cure for this scourge and we can all get back to living.
