Big Bore Addiction Group

(Tried to e-mail him but he is not very responsive...not interested in making some ammo either..

I bought some new .475 ammo from him though and it regulates in my rifle..

Would you please post some pics of your .470 Lang..?)

i can see why he wouldnt want to make some ammo for it as i dont think there would be too many sales ......here is the link to some photos of my lang http://www.africahunting.com/thread...d-and-refinished-by-j-roberts-gunmakers.7642/

matt those heym 150th anniversary price special offers at sci with the .470 and .500 doubles at $15,000.00 were tempting.......

I would have bought one on the spot if I had the money. but until I manage to sell my Searcy, I just don't have that kinda $$.

yup it would have been handy to have known about it before hand to try and make a plan............saw 2nd hand heym doubles on some of the stands for $3000.00 more than those new ones , and they came with some nice wood

Spike, that is indeed a fine and classic double....

For comparison, mine has 23" barrels and weighs in at 10,6 pounds with the .475 barrels....a short and handy rifle....I feel the weight is right...there is recoil but not that obtrusive.

Pondoro, get in touch with Cal.

He'll give you all jnfo needed for that beautiful beast. He has many loads in his Bore Rifle book.

Are you Pondoro at 'ar' also? ProUA on the political area?

Matt, look at my photo's for a sampling of the big iron at these DR shoots.

Yes Mike...same nick at AR..

They sure are in trouble Mike..

Do you know when the spring shoot it at Birchwood Range? (I have a wedding to attend this spring).
Didn't know Cal has a DR shoot monthly and I sometimes share a table with him at gun shows.
(Perhaps he's trying to tell me something).
Hope to finally meet you at the Palmer show March 7th & 8th.
My table will be almost directly across from the kitchen / espresso stand.
Cal can point me out for you.
Or, PM me in advance of the show for my cell phone number.

VD, when you work a gun show, are you working for a gun shop or are you just trying to move some of your inventory to invest in something else. The reason I ask is that I have never tried selling at a show although I probably have enough hardware that I could. A problem here in my part of the country is at least in the local shows, it seems most everyone is interested in ARs and the toys to bolt on to them. I personally have no interest in ARs. Is it the same in AK, everyone other than the old guys want ARs? And most of them don't hunt.

I had an interesting experience today! while at the range I had just got done with more load testing using the 400gr A-frame in my 416 RM when me and the range master decided to have a friendly competition using my "plinking" loads (350gr bullet at 2500fps). around that time I noticed a young girl (early 20's) watching us and semi-joking offered to let her try it and to my surprise she agreed! this girl was 5' tall at most (probably shorter) and when asked told me she weighed 95 pounds!

so this little 95 pound girl shouldered my 416 with a small towel folded up on her shoulder for added padding. I walked her threw the basics of shooting a heavy recoiling gun then promptly stood behind her ready to catch her or the gun. she then let loose and took the recoil like a pro! if that wasn't enough, she then wanted to compete against me and the range master. so we each fired 2 shots rapid fire off hand into a target at 50 yards (I won, but then again its my gun ). aside from the last shot which it didn't look like she was completely ready for (ouch!) she did great! I don't think ive ever been so proud of someone I didn't know. (y)

this range trip reinforces my belief that size/weight has nothing to do with handling large bore rifles. that 416 RM only weighs 9 pounds and would have been delivering around 50 ft/lb of recoil which was more then half her body weight!

matt had the same thing with my .458lott that there are photos of here somewhere back......we were in the luangwa in nyampala gma i think, and there was a girl with one of the people there who wanted a go with my lott after one of the men had a go. it weighs prob same as your rifle (mmm now i am going to have to go weigh it) and i asked if she was sure. she then fired it and said can i shoot it again .....which she did with no probs whatsoever. i think maybe with the light body weight they have less resistance and roll more with the recoil..............

Aye Matt;
What a bunch of screw ups!
1. Never, ever ask a woman what they weigh!
2. Always let her win.
3. If you did not get her phone number, that's 3 strikes buddy!

:E Rofl:

first, I cant imagine a girl who weighs under 100 pounds would be sensitive about her weight. second, I don't think the guy with her would have appreciated me asking her out!:V Black Eye:

Clearly she was looking for a man with a bigger gun @matt85 ! What's the old saying, "Youth is wasted on the young."

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
