Big Bore Addiction Group

So I thought I would do a bit of a range report.

Just got the base and the red dot for my Krieghoff 470NE double and went out to zero it and see how it handled with the new sights.

Mounted the Aimpoint micro at home and while its prettier without a reddot it doesn't look all that bad in my opinion.

Out to the range and zeroed it @ 45m. Its 1" low at 20 and spot on at 45 and 80 m.

Not a bad day on the range and I'm loving the red dot!

80m shoot with the aimpoint below. Each square is 0.6cm.

It is a very nice stock Bob! Your addiction still seems to have the best of you. What's next on your list??? Another elephant?

Really thinking lion. Probably use the M70 375 or possibly the 416. I would really like another buffalo as well and would love to use this 505 on that depending upon what the hunting conditions are like and if I get it functioning well enough.

Quite a bit of PG left on the list as well... And maybe Alaska Brown Bear? Might just put the stock spacers back in and use Ann's 375 Ruger for that though?

Definitely thinking about another elephant some day but will have to see how things go...

it would be illegal in Australia (18.5 inch barrel ,min) but that marlin would get a work out ,as a scrub gun

bluey what would happen if you arrived as a vistor to hunt , would they take the rifle off you if it had a barrel under 18.5 inches?

and i have just found your personal smiley!!!!! :E Upside Down: :E Laugh:

I hate to be the one to point this out Bob, but the bolt is on the wrong side of the gun.... :E Big Grin:

It is a small big bore but big bore just the same. Just finished restocking my 45/70 Ruger #1. I still need to checker it but here it is on the work bench.

the 45/70 might not be very powerful but its certainly a large bore. that stock looks outstanding!

You did the stock yourself? I'm impressed.....

Beautiful wood too!

Doesn't even resemble a #1 anymore! Beautiful wood! +1 with spike on the Bob Villa thing, I was banned from any home improvement projects after it took a contractor three days to fix a three hour attempt I made! I can destroy an anvil with a feather duster!

I have been doing furniture and wood work since I was a kid. This is the first #1 that I restocked made a couple small mistakes but will do better on the next #1. The original stock was very plain and and when it cracked I just decided to give it a shot. I have a 416 rigby and 7x57 #1's that will come next. I have a nice piece of Turkish and high grade carlo walnut that I will use on them.

Very nice work! And beautiful pieces of wood. I look forward to seeing the checkering job and your upcoming projects as well (y)

A bit of an update, took my 470 on a driven hunt in Poland last weekend and had a good time!

First day I shot four wild boar and two fallow does in seven shots ( all seven hit).
Longest run for any animal was 10yds (skidmarks for 8 ;) )

Second day was slow but I still managed to hit a running fox at close to 60 yds!
Didn't retrieve a piece big enough to save sadly since that was a trophy I would have loved to put on my wall!

Third day I switched to my Blaser .308 and managed to down three pigs whereof one a decent boar of around 130kg (y).

I'm so happy with how this double shoots that it is now sleeping in the bed next to me! The aimpoint micro really is the king of any driven hunts as far as optics go!

Some photos from the area we hunted:

may I suggest Intaba Safaris in the East Cape by Port Elizabeth, Eugene is a great guy, 2 of us will be there April 6th to April 14th. he does cull hunts(that's what I am doing) and if you go to his web site he is and offering daily fees of 200.00 and good cull prices. Thanks Jim
Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
