Respectfully, I could not disagree more. This is a man who commands the room both in a carasmatic and humbling way (unlike the previous 2 presidents). When he speaks, he speaks to Joe Sixpack because that (despite his law degree and millionaire status) is fundamentally who he is. There is a lot to debate about; and we can have that debate. However,, he is a man who cares about America, and he deeply cares about the people of this country whether they voted for him or not.
Regardless - as anchor Brian Williams just said, "no one shouted 'you lie' and no one ripped up the speech, so we will take that as a win in the past 20 years"
What is amazing to me is that so many of my fellow travelers are just like you, and without a single critical thought, accept this assault on what has been the most durable economic and governmental system since the enlightenment. Let me ignore the assault on the 2d Amendment for a moment.
Who do you think is going to pay for all your new "free" stuff? Who is going to underwrite our return to Middle East energy dependence (hint - that one is paid in both blood and treasure). Is some magic bureaucrat going to write you a check and shout WOOOOH as they pat junior on the head and send him off to pre-school or junior college? What jobs are these flood of new emigrants, refugees, etc going to take? Yours? Perhaps your son's or daughters?
Let me offer you some basic Economics 101. Biden's (or whomever is pulling his strings) desire to dramatically raise taxes on corporations is the most obvious bait and switch. Most of our major corporations survive with profit margins between 8 and 15%. Excluding, Amazon, many are far less profitable at the moment due to the pandemic. Those profits are necessary to grow business, attract share holders, invest in new technology, and expand the business base. Just like the local bakery or tire shop, they have to make a profit or they fail. When Trump lowered those taxes, it created a boom that was just gaining real momentum when Covid Arrived. New investment was created for new development, expansion, and most importantly growth within the US rather than abroad. That meant, among many things, more and higher paying jobs.
Tonight that came to a screeching halt. Let's say their new added corporate tax burden is an 8% upper. Again, remember that depending upon sector, those businesses require 8-15% to function profitably. Thus they can not absorb the new taxes into margin. Instead, they will be forced to take other actions to meet the government demands. 1) They will consolidate subordinate businesses. That means they will close some production facilities to centralize production in others. That means lost jobs. 2) They will return to off-shoring taxable business to more favorable tax countries (almost anywhere). In a favorable tax environment, a corporation is delighted to build software Stateside (the quality of our engineers is still world class). But in a punitive tax environment, they will quickly return to development options in Asia. The same is true physical production. The Chinese Politburo must be laughing and dancing around the table about now. 3) They will pass the increase to consumers. Not because they are evil, but because your stumbling hero of the common man has left them no choice. That increase will be in the increase in costs, and reductions in quality. Again, not their fault, but the Marxists who are pulling your hero's strings.
The really ridiculous thing about their tax theory is that it eventually will result in actual lower tax returns.
So the net net of your inspiring speech and economic plan will be to worsen your, your children's, and particularly that grandchild's life. He has placed an unsustainable economic burden on the country. To put the perfect ribbon around this reordering of our country, he is in the process of insuring insufficient revenue to ever address that burden. Therefore, not only will your working place buddies gradually have fewer opportunities, less disposable income, higher prices, but also the coming surge of inflation.
Don't you find it just a bit confusing that the two happiest people in the room tonight are you and Xi Jinping?
