Best Shellfish?

There are also other locations for Joe's Stone Crab all over the country if anybody wants to try.
They are a franchise.

I'm afraid you may be mistaken about the Joe's Stone Crab in South Florida. This is not a chain, and it's a high-end restaurant that has been in business since 1913. If there are other Joe's Stone Crab out there, I don't believe they are same. Here is the link:

I believe you are thinking about Joe's Crab Shack, would not be my first recommendation for great food.
No. Joe's Stone Crab. They have 3 locations.

There are 3 others in Chicago, DC and Las Vegas. I'm not sure they are same or not but they are excellent and very expensive. Look at the link above.

Well sh*t, I stand corrected. Thanks!

Strange that it only mentions Chicago, DC & Las Vegas and no mention of the Miami location.

Being from the West Coast, I have to go with fresh caught Dungeness Crab. We catch them out of San Francisco, boil them as soon as we get back to the dock and feast a few hours later.

However, the most memorable shellfish I’ve ever enjoyed was fresh caught King Crab while hunting Brown Bears on Kodiak. We had 2 pots soaking out in front of camp. Every single day, we’d start a pot of seawater, then motor out, pull a pot, select the crabs we wanted and head back to the beach to clean them. Straight into the pot and then the dinner table. We ate crab every day for 10 days! Crab sandwiches while sitting on a beach, glassing for Brown Bears is one of the best lunches I’ve ever enjoyed while hunting.

Love blue crabs but I used to pot my own Dungeness outside of Seattle and really enjoyed those. Could eat them for days…

With old bay of course…

I lived on the Texas gulf coast for 23 years and have to agree with Bubba on shrimp.

Shrimp gumbo is near the top of the list as are all the examples below.

Bubba : Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried.

Yes. Maybe they got bought out.

I’ve worked in and around the lobster industry all my adult life so obviously the answer is Nova Scotia lobster.

I don't believe it gets any better with Stone Crab and Hog Fish, two of my favorites. If you go back to South FL, you need to go to Joe's Stone Crab in South Beach, they have the best Stone Crabs, and the best Key Lime Pie. :)
Speaking of hogfish, Keys Fisheries has a sautéed hogfish with a holindais sauce and get them to add some jumbo lump crab meat and you have a great meal.

There's nothing like cold water lobster. Other lobster types can't even compare.

Agreed. Stop down by the docks and pick up a few boilers. It’s about the cheapest meal around.

Being from Virginia...

Chilled lobster, chilled shrimp, chilled VA oysters, chilled crab.
Then hot mussels

My Fav Key West Pinks

I’m not sure I have ever tried a shellfish other than shrimp. Perhaps it’s due to my proximity to the sea, I’m in rural Illinois, or maybe I just need to get out more.
Fresh seafood is hard to find. I would have to drive at least an hour, probably two, to find seafood that has not been dead for a couple days.
Also, neither of my parents like seafood, so I was never exposed to it. I’ll try it sometime just not sure when.

If you ever find yourself in Central America and in the Pacific coast, ask for Concha Negre Ceviche, and you'll be a brand-new person after eating them. Ingredients, Concha Negra, onions, tomatoes, green peppers, lemon juice, Worcestershire Sauce, and some type of local hot peppers. Flat out delicious. Oh, and no Cilantro for me, thank you! :ROFLMAO:
