@Cooposo - I was disappointed in “The Revenant”, too many obvious Computer-Generated-Images AND they fabricated the “true” parts of the story…the entire event really took place during the Summer months but I guess surviving a Grizzly attack wasn’t exciting enough for Hollywood - so they added Winter/Snow. They also Cut-the-barrel-length on the rifles used because the Director didn’t like the Look of the long barrels that were used actually during that time period. Lastly, all those scenes where they crossed rivers in below zero temps and got soaking wet, —- no Mountain Men or backwoods Men opted to cross a river in Below zero temps —- they knew they’d die. I think the movie “Jeremiah Johnson” with Robert Redford was a more accurate depiction of 1800s Mountain Men (except for all the Indian fight/killing scenes)….Just my opinion

Yea I read the Revenant and liked it. The movie even took liberties with the book IIRC. Of course modern day Hollywood had to make up a mixed race son and associated drama

No Country for Old Men (2007)-IMDB Synopsis- Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon the aftermath of a drug deal gone wrong and over two million dollars in cash near the Rio Grande.

That movie is one wild ride and all starts out with a pronghorn hunt. The whole rest of the movie is a hunt…but just a manhunt. I absolutely love the movie. My brother hates it. Tommy Lee Jones in the closing scene…I’m probably in a small minority that grew up riding the range on horses, and hunting, and chasing cows with my dad. But the last 30 seconds of the movie hit me hard.

Very valid opinions! I didn’t love the movie either. No doubt that Jeremiah Johnson is a better movie from top to bottom. The Revenant is not a great movie by any stretch. But it’s ok and I thought it worth mentioning in this thread. I guess I mention it cause it could scratch a certain itch, and it was cool to see any such movie made in 2015.

I guess I overlooked bison hunting in Dances With Wolves too! Should have mentioned that.

That is quite a while ago now. I honestly don't know. Think I saw the movie on one of the video platforms like YouTube.

Quick search now leads me to Amazon who sells the DVD.

In the Blood is a very good safari movie. It’s about Theodore Roosevelt IV and his son on safari in Moyowasi with one of Teddy Rosevelt’s old rifles. Excellent cinematography and soundtrack.

Indeed YouTube is a better source of African video content than the main broadcasters these days

Yesterday we had a temporary problem with the Wi-Fi so no internet.

So watched King Solomon Mines with Stewart Granger. In the beginning there is actual footage of an elephant getting a frontal brain shot during a hunt.

Besides that it was a fairly mediocre film.
