Australia today

Wow! At first glance I thought the authorities were pulling Townsend Nelson @Bob Nelson 35 Whelen out of a gun shop cause he was destroying all the .243 stuff in the store? Guess not though.
@CoElkHunter
No I wasn't destroying all the 243 stuff mate. People are free to use what caliber they like. All the people running up the street were going to get a 35 Whelen before they sold out.
Ha ha ha ha ha

I can only hope the people of Australia & its allies get their heads out of their ass & see what is really the greatest threat of all, A WAR WITH CHINA! climate change is a con & this virus is a test by china.
and the politicians of the western world have used these issues to increase their power & brain
wash the younger generation. may be we could fight china with wind turbines & a gender neutral
defense force if ever the world needed the might of the USA its now & we have a fool like Joe Biden in charge
Absobloodylutely nailed! China could invade Taiwan or anybody else tomorrow and Sippy Cup will do nothing, but maybe blame Trump and they know it. China has Joe by the short and curlies!
I keep wondering what they are waiting for.

@sestoppelman
I don't think China will invade Taiwan because the world would be up in arms over it. They could do it cheaper and easier electronically by hacking power grids and financial institutions. This will bring a country to its knees quicker and without a shot being fired.
What people don't know about China is at the moment a lot of china is without power after 9pm.
The coal they are using at the moment is not up to the task and burns dirty. The Chinese stopped importing coal from Australia and is now trying to buy it off other countries that have taken up the slack with our coal. China is paying up to 3x the price for Australian coal from these other countries so they don't loose face by asking Australia to buy coal again.
This is directly from a mates wife that still has family in China and he still flys there for business.
China is hurting but doesn't want the world to know.

I hope you are right, however China never seems to be in the trouble folks think it is.
Remember the book, The Coming Collapse of China, by Gordon Chang. It was written 20 years ago and they are still here kicking dirt in everyones face. I would not put anything past them.

Every once in a while something squeaks out about the not so calm waters in China and I smile, but it certainly isn't very often. Things like a not so happy labor sector or a disillusioned younger generation. Lately I've seen a couple things about an in trouble economy and manufacturing sector. I can only hope they're all true.

We should have let the Japanese have them.

Interesting comment on coal. It is the only energy source China is basic in. They lead the world in coal gasification technology, somewhat thanks to a JV with Shell. I’ve been through a number of Chinese gasification plants and the Shell demo plant in Buggenum, Netherlands. If your comment is correct, there must be a quality issue with Chinese coal, as they have no shortage of the stuff.

Personally, when they were building material wealth in a middle class I was not as concerned as now. When people are getting fat they don't want to jeopardize their comfort. When they start to starve then rallying them against a common enemy helps to redirect their discontent.

Many, if not most, of China's industrial "might" is being heavily backed and subsidized by their Communist government. Their steel industry gets 80-90 percent subsidies. They couldn't compete in the world without it. It hasn't been a level playing field with private industry (without subsidies) in most other countries for decades. That's why China can "dump" aluminum and steel and other products at below cost into other countries in an attempt to undermine those countries industries. And it has worked. As an example, look at the US and Australia's steel manufacturing. They are both a shadow of what they used to be. It's time for every country to take a hard look at China's predatory trade policies and enact meaningful tariffs to balance the current severe trade inbalances. The UN needs to pull their heads out of their rectums and remove China from the "developing nation" status with the advantage in trade given them by that status. They haven't met the requirements for that status in decades! China trade rant over and am now going to watch a video of China Joe eat ice cream imported from his homeboys in China.

Good info.

Gold Coast may not be the best place for a young person to spend too much time in. Of the two unis I would definietely choose UQ. Another university to consider, particularly for marine biology, would be James Cook University, they have campuses in Townsville and Cairns. I’m a JCU alumni - undergraduate degree, (I did masters at UTS) and it is a decent institution. PM me If you have questions about studying in Oz from international student’s perspective, but in short - it was great.

Unfortunately, James Cook is not on her list of approved Universities. And it looks like Cook has the best Marine program in Australia. In Queensland it’s University of Queensland and Bond. Bond semesters are the same as in the USA. In NSW it’s University of Sydney and a couple of others in NSW. Of course Sydney has several beaches, Bondi - a train and bus ride, Manly - a ferry ride. Sydney does have a station of the reef, but that’s a long way away, unless you fly.

@WAB
Apparently the coal they have been using burns very dirty and is stuffing their equipment. The Australian coal Apparently is the best for their needs.

Just started reading a fascinating, disturbing book by researcher Sharri Markson: "WHAT REALLY HAPPENED IN WUHAN". An in-depth analysis, with information from within, and outside China. It illustrates how foolish western leaders kowtowed to and accepted what the PRC told us about C19 and its spread.
We Aussies have a bunch of pollies and business leaders who are STILL following the PRC line. Time we sorted them out, methinks.

you are right Zambezi
we have had people lose the privilege of being a firearms licence holder and confiscation of firearms because of breaking covid rules like being at someone's home or being out of your klm zone limit,
we had gun stores closed during lockdown and a 10k fine for anyone buying or selling firearms as well as we were not allowed to buy ammunition, l'd rather the right than a privilege

We are constantly being fed propaganda & lies by the media & our politicians to suit there agenda, its hard to have respect for them anymore . The media has way to much power & influence over the younger generation just look at the stupid TV shows, we are being turned
into weak minded pussy's. The army in my day turned boys into men, now they have sex change operations, gender neutral training & rainbow days. God help us i think that Western democracy
is on the down hill slide. i am over this shit lets talk about guns & hunting.

Yup, 'nuf of this arguing among ourselves; let's direct it where it belongs.

I suppose the question is how often will she be able to visit the reef station? I’m not sure where each of the universites’ stations are located but I’m guessing somewhere near Cairns, Townsville or perhaps Mackay. If that’s correct than whether she’s based in Brisbane or Sydney it is still a flight. Personally I think Sydney is a more interesting city, but that is nothing but my personal opinion. Sydney uni is quite well regarded and has a nice, large campus. Another question is how will this covid situation develop in each of the states?

Not exactly a secret that China is struggling with power supplies and it impacting on manufacturing etc there..been on bbc news app for a bit...only problem with that is that it affects most other countries industries ....

That’s a concern too. We don’t get a lot of Australia news in the USA, and what we are getting, is not pretty, with lock downs, masking and arrests.

I live in Townsville, have for years. not only does JCU have a very active reef research connection, but just "down the road" is headquarters for the Great Barrier Marine Park Authority with their own specialised large research vessel and easy access to the reef itself. I've met several young overseas students studying with either body. Townsville has one major issue: juvenile crime, which the State government has no idea on managing.
Against that, there's a decent nightlife, one of the best beachfronts you could imagine, and a pretty freindly population. I'd be privileged to offer any help she may need.

I know i said i am over this topic but here i go again, on the morning news people were thanking the Slimey QLD premier for letting them home into QLD after being locked out for over 1 year they should have been very angry that it happened & want revenge on the left wing union hugging woman, she will probably get re elected, talk about being able to use the media to her advantage. The QLD government has turned this virus in to a political game to their advantage &
stupid people are falling for it.

Well prison is the safest place to live out ur days.but who wants that.there was a firery auto crash in front of my house last week. The man died intstantly.no talk of covid. Not talk of the suicide rate either.i live in one of the freeist states florida .there's no panick,no endless dribble on the news or at the Starbucks well maybe starbucks.but not Sonny's or McDonald's.u get the shot if u want.u were a mask if u want.most don't.or hide in ur house if u want.go to crack town now ones vaccinated their to worried about getting shot over a crack rock.thats another thing the media in the states has pushed a mistrust the government since the 50s right up to the last election .then we're supposed to trust them (or listen to them).we have a secret fisa court that no one can see or explain and we are supposed to trust them.atleast there is some states rights and I'm lucky enough to have a governor the doesn't trust the feds like we don't.im not vaccinated I may to travel abroad. my daughter is a charge nurse she's not vaccinated she works around it all day. I race motorcycles,I play with guns,I talk while driving I don't wear my seat belt,I hunt in the mountains in the freezing cold one broken leg and ur dead.how much safety can a type a personality take.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
