79 Series Land Cruiser discontinued, what will your Professional Hunter use in the future

I think the dead of the 70 series may be a tad exaggerated.

You could buy a brand new bare-bones FJ79 for about $39,000 (US) in someplace like Somalia.

Toyota recently announced some upgrades for the 2022 Australian 70 series.

They have not been discontinued.

The only new option for us in the United States is a $100,000 model that is not made to take off the highway. (Lexus LX branded, don't know if it will be available as a "Toyota")

Ridiculous!

4WD Ford (ranger equivalent) bakkies were making inroads in SA and Namibia last time I was there--cost a LOT less than a LC and seemed to be well received. (plus they are made in SA) It is too bad small 4 cylinder diesels are not more available stateside. They are the only way I know to get all 3 of my requirements: 1. tow a boat/small trailer, 2. 4WD and 3. great gas mileage. I don't know of ANYTHING available that will give all three, but I am open to suggestion.

As far as the

My PH had a Triton, just like the one I own in Australia.
Good on Fuel, 4wd and I tow a van.

I don't see why a Ford Ranger is so much dearer. .

No biase but Triton was the right price at the time.

You have obviously not seen all the piss taking WhatsApp videos and photos of ford rangers that we get ....yes there are a lot on the road even here...but not great reputation....a landcruiser single cab here is I think around usd 90,000 and DC usd 95,000...business can reclaim some tax on single cab...but any vehicle including pickups that have 3 doors are classified as a luxury vehicle so can't reclaim any on them...

@spike.t
I've only been to SA once, I actually thought we would be using a Cruiser as a Bakkie.

As a private individual I could buy, Order and wait, for a cruiser single cab Workmate 72K, GXL 76k

Aussie dollars from a big dealer. At present there is a long wait but they are available to order.

I was surprised, on pricing but then there are the extras and registration

They are lot cheaper in SA than here...bought mine 2nd hand from there in 2014...was only 6 months old with 14000 kms on it

That should say any vehicle with 4 doors... :X3:

Fk me....I think I gave enough info/links to prove it was bullshit that the 79 was being stopped....and a possible reason about the supposed legal reason some couldn't sell on the new suv version....but that was new one...not 79 etc....so

Here usd 90000 to 95000...single cab to double cab..butyou can't buy them there...
That's a lot of dough! I bought a new J40 diesel in '78. Always loved those vehicles but they haven't been sold in Canada for decades.

Yeah...with the extras on mine I saved between usd 15 to 20,000 buying in SA...and it was basically brand new...was run by director of a Toyota dealer as his personal vehicle

That works ok if you can drive between countries.

I got my 98 via Germany as a second hand expedition conversion - the Germans are truly excellent at such conversions

It was a good deal but a left hooker

I did look into importing from Japan as, at the time, the Japanese tended to get rid of their vehicles after about 3 years

Made for a good supply of right hand drive 98s in good condition

Suitable for Southern Africa as the steering wheel is on the correct side :giggle:

I know some 'would be' owners were looking at how to set up an NGO as significant discounts were available - I couldn't see that route leading to much success though

Why settle for 4 cylinders when Ford, GM and Ram all have pretty good 3 liter, 6 cylinder Eco-diesel options?

Apologies for slightly off topic...but these are some prices for brand new vehicles that were in a mall on display from the merc and jeep importer... last year....priced in usd as exchange rate was moving rapidly then...think the merc was on a cheap Christmas deal as well...

I'm not sure why Toyota would discontinue a vehicle because of terrorists that they specifically market to the terrorists... seems like fake news to me...

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
Behind the scenes of taking that perfect picture.....

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
