4WD Ford (ranger equivalent) bakkies were making inroads in SA and Namibia last time I was there--cost a LOT less than a LC and seemed to be well received. (plus they are made in SA) It is too bad small 4 cylinder diesels are not more available stateside. They are the only way I know to get all 3 of my requirements: 1. tow a boat/small trailer, 2. 4WD and 3. great gas mileage. I don't know of ANYTHING available that will give all three, but I am open to suggestion.

My PH had a Triton, just like the one I own in Australia.
Good on Fuel, 4wd and I tow a van.

I don't see why a Ford Ranger is so much dearer. .

You have obviously not seen all the piss taking WhatsApp videos and photos of ford rangers that we get ....yes there are a lot on the road even here...but not great reputation....a landcruiser single cab here is I think around usd 90,000 and DC usd 95,000...business can reclaim some tax on single cab...but any vehicle including pickups that have 3 doors are classified as a luxury vehicle so can't reclaim any on them...

Fk me....I think I gave enough info/links to prove it was bullshit that the 79 was being stopped....and a possible reason about the supposed legal reason some couldn't sell on the new suv version....but that was new one...not 79 etc....so

Yeah...with the extras on mine I saved between usd 15 to 20,000 buying in SA...and it was basically brand new...was run by director of a Toyota dealer as his personal vehicle

I got my 98 via Germany as a second hand expedition conversion - the Germans are truly excellent at such conversions

It was a good deal but a left hooker

I did look into importing from Japan as, at the time, the Japanese tended to get rid of their vehicles after about 3 years

Made for a good supply of right hand drive 98s in good condition

Suitable for Southern Africa as the steering wheel is on the correct side

I know some 'would be' owners were looking at how to set up an NGO as significant discounts were available - I couldn't see that route leading to much success though

Why settle for 4 cylinders when Ford, GM and Ram all have pretty good 3 liter, 6 cylinder Eco-diesel options?

Apologies for slightly off topic...but these are some prices for brand new vehicles that were in a mall on display from the merc and jeep importer... last year....priced in usd as exchange rate was moving rapidly then...think the merc was on a cheap Christmas deal as well...
