375 Zastava M70

They are mostly very good rifles.
Was sort of taking a mental inventory the other day and found that I own probably more Winchesters than any other make as well, from bolts to levers to semi autos even.

My thoughts on the Zastava MK M70 prior to buying one second hand was they were a very roughly finished POS. I purchaced one in 375H&H for $725.00
from a person that decided that ammo was too expensive & recoil from the bench with 300 grain factory ammo was too much, it had 15 rounds through it. I thought may be i could turn a pigs ear into a silk purse.
On stripping the rifle down & cleaning it up the metal work is very well finished. An all steel M98. With an Excellent internal barrel finish with a fully adjustable trigger, now set at 3 pounds.
The stock is very poorly finished & poorly bedded i think they must have a rat at the factory that chews out the barrel channel & with a brown finish like mud hiding some reasonable timber, after some reshaping & fitting a steel grip cap & Ebony fore end tip & Epoxy bedding the action it looks much better .
The magazine holds 3 it feeds & extracts like silk & i can not see how the action length or magazine is too short for the 375.
In all i think they are a hidden gem .

I have a high spot on my extractor that prevents the bolt from falling open from gravity. I worked on it with Flitz for a while, guess I'll need to take mine to somebody who knows what they're doing. Probably also have them polish up the bolt channels while they're at it.

But yeah, otherwise, quite a good rifle. I refinished the wood on mine with Belen's, think I'm going to have somebody cerakote it.

Extractor drag is pretty common with all Mauser actions.

That's where it catches on the way out, about 2" behind the bolt face. It falls due to gravity to that spot, and a little bump will have gravity pull it the rest of the way out.

Pretty normal.

Looking at the finish on the bolt the whole thing needs polishing , easy to do remove the extractor dissemble the bolt polish the bolt & extractor starting with
600 grit & finishing with 1000 grit emery cloth , wash in solvent & oil .

A easy way to polish Mauser bolt race ways, remove barreled action from the stock remove the bolt stop ejector box, cut a piece of timber about 12 inches long & 1/4 high & a little narrower than the race way width , wrap it with 800 grit wet & dry paper & glue the paper to the timber with contact adhesive, slide the wood in & out from the rear of action & polish the race ways. Wash out the residue with solvent & blow off with compressed air
& patch out barrel & re oil

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
