375 Zastava M70

I sure you'll be happy with your Zastava,s I have Whitworth in 375 and a M70 in 7-08 both are excellent shooters but needed a little trigger work. I refinished the stock on the 7-08 and found some decent wood after I removed the old finish

When I got my Whitworth .375 back in 1984, the wood looked bare of any finish, though it was described as oil finish.
Might have had one coat I suppose! Anyway I gave it a few coats of tung oil and have never touched it since and after 3 trips to Africa is certainly has some wear and thin spots but mostly the tung oil is still there.
Light years ahead of BLO.

Got one in 375 h&h. As we speak my stock is drying from the refinish. Will pick it up next week. Will share some pictures. Great rifle. My allround go to rifle.

I have no other big game rifle. Because the 375 does it all. Currently shooting 156 grain projectiles from Sax.
Love to see some photos.

Linspeed yes the spelling is correct gives a beautiful hand rubbed oil finish. It's used on rifle stocks and high end furniture. All my timber stocks are finished with it.
Check it out on Dr Google.

Nice Job

Looks great, is that the original checkering? on mine it has very flat tops , what did you use to finish it?.

Thank you.Yes, this is the original checkering. I have to ask what he used. Did not do it myself, outsourced it.

No that is correct. Sax Germany makes them. Makes also one in 185 grain I think.

Hi DieJager .
Just my opinion - I think it is a waste having a 375 h&h and shooting such light bullets out of it , sort of defeats the whole purpose of having a 375 h&h . If such light bullets are going to be used it would most probably make more sense having something like a 30-06 / 300 win mag / 300 h&h / etc .
If I may ask - why you shooting such lights bullets in the 375 ? The lightest I use in my 375 is 270 gr bullets .

Short answer why not. Long answer: we only can have a certain amount of guns for hunting. The maximum is 6.

I can use lots of different bullets with the 375. But for now I mainly hunt roe deer and decided for the time being using this light bullet.

More than a dozen roe deer shot. All DRT. Speed kills and this light bullet does it fast and with flat shooting.

And also just because I can

Now I understand , being limited to a few rifles I suppose can make one explore all options to make the most of what one has . Although we have difficult and tough gun laws in South Africa we are allowed to own many firearms if the correct procedures are followed . Easy to forget that some countries have a lot more restrictive firearm laws than we have .
Thank you for the feedback .

How was the meat damage with the lighter projectile?

I was about to ask the same question. I’ve shot Roe with 9.3x74R with 285gr Norma Oryx as well as 375HH with some 270gr projectiles (just happened to have that rifle in hand while boar hunting) and there was no problem with excessive damage owing to relatively tough projectiles, however, a lightweight bullet going faster might be different. Roe doe season starts on October 1st here and I’ll be carrying a 5.6x50R this time, can’t wait to get that barrel in the field, a bit more suitable for Roe.

Not much if you avoid the shoulder shot. If you hit the shoulder the damage is considerable.

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
