2019 Safari Club International Show Summary

Good Lord - both DSC and SCI need to go to school on the RMEF revenue model.

You posted this before I updated. They need the Ducks model. Looks like "hunting trade shows" are not money makers.

Sounds like that will be a subject of your speech to the board while you're in DC. Pretty cool that you've been invited . Can't wait to hear how it goes.

And by the way, SCI doesn't get any public money I don't believe. All of the donations are from private citizens.

I agree on the public/private money donations. Thanks for the correction. Private citizens deserve to know how their money is being spent. Kudos to wesheltonj for posting it up. I also agree with RedLeg.....the RMEF model is much more appealing.

As to the SCI invite, I see it as a monumental waste of time, money, and effort. This should give Royal more ammo t pad his post count.

I'll just add one more post, for now at least. I don't pay as much attention to my post count as you do I guess. You've made your position regarding SCI quite clear. I have no intention of trying to change it, never did. I do think people deserve to have the correct information on which to base their decisions and hopefully this thread has helped with that.

Have a good one!

I have to ask you then what the point of your posting in this thread is? What effect are you trying to bring about? Granted it would certainly involve travel costs and time, but you were given an opportunity to communicate your concerns to SCI leadership in person, versus just taking shots at Mr. Babaz from your keyboard. Yet you see that as a waste of effort.

And all the while you volunteer 20 hours per month to this organization. Why you would devote that much time to an organization you have what seems like nothing but disdain for, instead of choosing one more to your liking, is baffling to me.

I'm quite certain I share some of the same concerns you have regarding SCI. But I'd rather be working towards solutions to those issues versus just sitting back and bashing those who would also try.

WELL SAID !!!

There is another discussion elsewhere. What I find interesting was the response from Karl Evans below:

"A meeting was held at the SCI offices last August regarding this very subject, I was in attendance, as were several representatives from the NRA and SCI. It was proposed that the three groups present a united front against anti hunter and anti gun groups and all three groups pledged cooperation. One of the organizations was to spearhead the effort but nothing much has transpired, so the other two groups met last month in Dallas and are moving forward with the idea. Expect to see something in the near future.
By the way, Jim Porter with the NRA would be the proper person to whom emails should be addressed, he is now leading the HLF.

President, DSC
President, DSC Frontline"

I would love to see SCI's response on this.

PhoenixPhil, my OP was to see if anyone else on this board who is active in SCI was aware of the practices I presented. Many members are not, if the responses from various forums on this subject are any indication. I also believe you are way overreacting with you "taking shots at Paul" baloney. When you put yourself out in the public eye, be prepared for questions and scrutiny, and I see nothing wrong with that. As stated in one of my posts here, I serve on the board of a large foundation, and I get questions all the time. Part of the equation.

I volunteer my time because the local people I work with are good guys, and I like to contribute. The outdoors is my hobby, period.

Yes, I see it as a total waste of my time. So, specifically, what are you doing in the background to offer solutions?

I think solutions start with effective communication. And as such I've tried to engage him in a manner as if I were speaking to him face to face. Anyone who truly knows me knows I'm not afraid to discuss difficult topics. I do however try my best to ensure it does not become personal. Until Paul came along I've not seen anyone from SCI engage grassroots members here on AH or the other place. So I think it behooves us to start with being polite and careful not to make allegations (directly or indirectly) at that person who is fairly new to the job.

Your posts come across as aggressive to me and I don't think I'm the only one who feels that way. Are your questions valid? Yes I believe they are. And as mentioned I'm quite certain I share at least some of the same concerns as you and perhaps others that you know nothing about.

When Paul first showed up here last year we had another member who took him immediately to task in a very rude manner. I give kudos to Paul for not giving the old number one to him and this website and never coming back, regardless of whether or not he should be prepared for it. Rude behavior has no excuse.

I would not compare your posts to this former AH member. But they do seem accusatory.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
