I bought a Heym sidelock .375 at auction in the UK and a very nice Krieghoff 500/416 from a dealer in Spain and imported them. I am in Canada and it is very easy to import a hunting rifle, I understand it’s harder in the USA but I saved a lot of money by buying overseas and importing them.

Interesting, Wilson Combat chambers their version of the rifle in 350 legend and I think it would be a great rifle for my boys. Light weight, less recoil than a .243 but lots of power for deer within any range they would be shooting.

Here is my only single shot (apart from my muzzleloader). It’s a Heym 44b in .270 Win. I hunted Whitetail a bit with it this year, but haven’t harvested an animal with it yet. It makes a nice pair with my .375H&H Heym 88b sidelock double.

I have an M12 in 30-06, with a walnut stock and open sights. The balance and handling are phenomenal, the trigger is amazing, the sights are top notch, and it’s accurate! I have plenty of other rifles but my M12 is never going anywhere.

It’s not that I want more magnification, it’s that the 1.7-10x42 is significantly better in low light which I find to be very beneficial for deer, bear, plainsgame, etc.

You’ll want to shoot a massive animal from very close, so a wide field of view is critical. I recently sold my .404 (on a CZ550 action) but I found a Swarovski Z6i 1-6x24 in Alaska Arms QD mounts to be perfect on that rifle.

I’d be tempted to say .270 win to pair with a 9.3x62. But it depends on what you plan to use it for. The .308 would be an easy to feed relatively affordable option too. Personally for my R8 I went with .22lr, 30-06, and .375 H&H. But that requires 3 bolt heads too.

Botswana is not on the current CDC list of countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission. If I were to travel to an endemic area I’d get the vaccine (coming down with hemorrhagic fever doesn’t sound like a fun safari to me) but there are no endemic areas in Botswana currently.

Turret diameter is 1 1/16 th inches. Protrusion from the scope body is 5/8th of an inch. Mine used to be on a 9.3x74r double, but is now on my Heym 44b .270 win. It’s a nice scope.
