Shipping a rifle scope from Canada to the USA

The market for stuff like this is much smaller here, but as suggested I think I’ll just list it in Canada for now. If import to the US was simple I’d just list it here, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Shipping a rifle scope from Canada to the USA

I know it can be a pain to export rifle scopes to Canada from the USA due to ITAR restrictions. Is it the same shipping a scope to the USA ? I’m curious as I have a Swarovski Z6i 1-6x24 EE that I don’t have a use for, and should probably sell. Also, what would be a reasonable price? It has...

Why did you buy a 6.5 Creedmoore?

I bought one because the guy I foolishly sold my .270 to wanted a 6.5 CM. So I bought the 6.5 and traded it to him to get my .270 back :)

    Scope for .375 double

I have a Z6i 1-6 already on my R8 .375 barrel, but I also need a scope for my R8 30-06 barrel. I think I’ll grab a Z6i 1.7-10 since it’s on sale right now and put it on my R8 30-06 barrel. Then I can compare the two directly before deciding which scope to put on the double. As I’m using claw...

    Scope for .375 double

It’s not that I want more magnification, it’s that the 1.7-10x42 is significantly better in low light which I find to be very beneficial for deer, bear, plainsgame, etc.

    Scope for .375 double

I have a Heym 89b sidelock in .375 H&H. It has a claw mounted Zeiss 1.5-4.5x18 scope which works fairly well on this rifle but I find that eye position relative to the scope is fairly critical and it’s a little finicky to quickly acquire the sight picture at times. I’m considering rescoping it...

Buying A Used Heym Double Rifle - Any Advice?

I’ve never heard of any particular problems with any of the Heym doubles. Mine is an 88B sidelock, the sidelock were discontinued at some point and seem rare enough that the auction house incorrectly assumed it was a sideplated boxlock. As long as the stock dimensions are right for you any Heym...

Need a scope for my CZ 550 .404 Jeffery

You’ll want to shoot a massive animal from very close, so a wide field of view is critical. I recently sold my .404 (on a CZ550 action) but I found a Swarovski Z6i 1-6x24 in Alaska Arms QD mounts to be perfect on that rifle.

Namibia To Lose N$260m Over Uk’s Anti-trophy Hunting Bill

Our own genius politicians here in Canada recently banned all imports of ivory from legally hunted elephants. They preach anti colonialism, yet won’t believe that stable African democracies know how to manage their own wildlife… To be honest it just makes me want try elephant hunting even more!

    Regulation question

Generally correct, although in the case of an unfinished rifle I’d be careful to make sure you know what you are buying before you purchase it. Make sure you budget for any work that may need completing, and don’t assume that everything else is finished. There are details such as ejector timing...

Help me pick my next R8 caliber

I’d be tempted to say .270 win to pair with a 9.3x62. But it depends on what you plan to use it for. The .308 would be an easy to feed relatively affordable option too. Personally for my R8 I went with .22lr, 30-06, and .375 H&H. But that requires 3 bolt heads too.

    Whisky appreciation

I used to drink a fair bit of that. But the price has gone up about 50% in the last few years and although it’s a nice dram I think it’s now overpriced for what it is (at least where I live). Tonight I’ll be drinking Port Charlotte 10 yr. I've also become a fan of Arran and more recently...

    Barnes TSX or not

Botswana is not on the current CDC list of countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission. If I were to travel to an endemic area I’d get the vaccine (coming down with hemorrhagic fever doesn’t sound like a fun safari to me) but there are no endemic areas in Botswana currently.

Has anyone used this Optics Trade company?

I’ve purchased from them, I had no issues. Shipping from Slovenia to Canada was surprisingly cheap and fast. Sometimes US export controls make it easier for me to import stuff from Europe, plus they have lots of great optics and mounts that just aren’t available in North America.

    AHR .404 Jeffery For Sale

I’ve decided to put my AHR .404 Jeffery up for sale. It’s their DGR custom, built on a CZ550 action. AAA+ English Walnut, pop up aperture sight, 14 inch length of pull. Initially I had a few feeding issues, so it went to Ralph Martini for a tune up. Ralph made sure it feeds everything...

    Leopard Optics

I do love the Swarovski Z6i line, as well as the Leupold Vx-6 but for a low light scope the Zeiss Victory HT 3-12x56 with illuminated reticle is just amazing. It’s incredibly bright and the dot is wonderfully fine and precise. I honestly don’t think there’s anything better.

    AHR 404 Jeffery

Importing into Canada isn’t hard for a “non-restricted” class firearm. But depending on where you are importing from it can be slow and expensive. I find it’s easy and cheap from the US, but more expensive from anywhere that requires the use of airfreight (like the UK). However certain types of...

    AHR 404 Jeffery

Last year I got a .404 Jeffery custom from AHR on a CZ550 action. It’s a full custom, nice walnut, and a pop up aperture sight in the rear bridge. The feeding was tuned a bit for me by Ralf Martini so that it would feed well even with blunt large meplat bullets. However, now I’ve picked up a...

    Heym 88b Sidelock .375 H&H

I recently bought at auction a Heym 88b in .375 H&H. It was sold as a sideplated boxlock but when it arrived yesterday I found that it is as I suspected actually a sidelock action. Its has 25 inch barrels, and is about 8.5 lbs without the scope. Claw mounted Zeiss 1.5-4.5 scope. The length of...

    German Claw Mount Red Dot?

I doubt anyone in the US stocks them, but NECG would be my first place to call if I were looking there. Odd euro mounts like this I normally order from opticstrade in Slovenia. But you’d probably be lucky to even find someone to fit the base properly in that time frame.

Affordable big bores no longer being offered by the big guys

That’s weird… the M12 still shows up for me. I wonder if it’s another case of not being offered in the USA? It was never really popular in North America anyway, although i do have one and love it.

Affordable big bores no longer being offered by the big guys

I agree!! But their are so many small shops that have cool stuff pop up occasionally too, if you look long and hard enough. I once got an Empire Rifles .450 Rigby from a small shop in rural Ontario for about $3000. It had only ever fired 2 shots…..

Affordable big bores no longer being offered by the big guys

Just to clarify a few small misconceptions in this thread. Mauser does still make the M12 according to their website (the M03 is discontinued). And the Browning BAR was and still is made in 9.3x62, just not for the American market (check the Browning International website). Although neither are...
