The two grooves above the cartridges in the above pic are to thin the leather slightly at that point to help the leather bend and to help stop the leather cracking on the other side from continual opening and closing

416WSM on Siamese Mauser & 416/348Ackley Improved on Martini

An impulse buy....6.5x54 MS....but not the one you think

The little 6.5's, in either x52 or x54, are an underrated round. Once you get the bore size correct, in bullet weights from 129 and 140 up to 160 they are a versatile little cartridge, remember Bell shot Elephants with one !! The 6.5 is a larger case and has a greater powder capacity than a...

I need some of your wisdom on a 6.5 Swede sporter!

I have several 6.5x55's, all m96 in Husqvarnas and Carl Gustavs, nothing fancy but good, accurate working guns. The lack of gas shield can be partly alleviated by simply attaching a flat washer to the shroud ( pic below ) The rifle I use the most is a '96 Husky in 6.5x55 Improved, 21" barrel (...

An impulse buy....6.5x54 MS....but not the one you think

Actually its not that bad, it holds 54gr's of water, 4 more than the Remington and 3 less than the 358 Win. A bit of load testing with the powders that I have on hand give me about 2100 FPS with 180 gr pills, so I need to try some different powders.....any suggestion anyone ?? I'm going to...

An impulse buy....6.5x54 MS....but not the one you think

A lot of the Carcano's were .268 with a gain twist barrel. Here in Oz they were not popular because the commercial ammo was .264 and you couldn't hit the side of a barn with them. I have two Carcano's....one rebarrelled with a .264 barrel and chambered in 6.5x54 MS and the other in a wildcat of...

Bolt gun in .375 Flanged Magnum

OxfordTheCat, the 375 x 2-1/2 FNE is not a " necked out 303 " it is a completely different case, based on the 303 but longer. The 375/303 IS a " necked out 303 "......the last sentence makes no sense....I apologise if this sounds rude.

Bolt gun in .375 Flanged Magnum

Just for clarification... The 375 x 2-1/2" flanged nitro express is the " 303 " style cartridge, the two and a half inch length being the identifier. The 375 H &H Flanged Magnum is the rimmed version of the Holland and Holland 375 Magnum. Roger

Bolt gun in .375 Flanged Magnum

549, to fit the 375 HH Flanged Magnum into a P14 ( probably the only action for this conversion ) takes a lot of modifications to the action. I converted a P14 to 9.3x74R ( slightly longer than the 375 ) and it involves a lot of metal removal, new mag box, etc, etc, and on and on.... There...
