Back from Africa. I used R15 loaded to 2350 with 350 grain TSX’s. Shot a large bull Cape buffalo a little and centered the heart. The bullet was just under the skin on the far side.
I also shot a cow Cape buffalo. She was facing me at a slight angle. The shot entered the left forward shoulder...
I have loads worked up for IMR 4350 and R15. Velocity for both is 2350. R15 groups at 1/2” at 100 yards. IMR 4350 groups under an inch at 100 yards. The .375, 350 grain TSX expanded to .753 on a Buffalo, shot at 110 meters. One shot dropped the Buffalo. That was with the IMR 4350. Heading back...
I have a Remington 721 and a Remington 700 custom shop , both in 300 H & H. Still working on loads with the 700. The 721 likes 180 grain Accubonds. What powder do you like for the 200 & 220 grain bullets?
That’s 5,615 projected coal powered plants in just 8 countries.
USA has 15 - & building 0 more... Total = 15.
And Democrat politicians with their "Green New Deal” want to brainwash us and shut down those 15 plants in order to "Save” the planet.
FYI
How many coal-fired power plants are there in the world today?
Green New Deal???
The EU has 468 - & building 27 more... Total 495,
Turkey has 56 - & building 93 more... Total 149, South
Africa has 79 - & building 24 more... Total 103,
India has 589 - & building 446 more...
It’s the age old story when people encroach on wildlife, the wildlife suffer. The only way to stop this is to relocate the people or the wildlife. A top predator needs plenty of space.
As stated previously, contact your PH and practice with what he has or bring your own that you have been practicing with. It is all a matter of what you are comfortable with and practice with. Some of the PH's are starting to use quad sticks. I found a pair online at Cowboy Safes. My with shoots...
Two of my buddies just flew to Namibia Tuesday with Qatar. If the lay-over in Doha is long enough they give you a free room at the airport (bed and shower). Qatar is very good with the guns. No hassles, a little slow but very smooth. I've had bad luck in Heathrow with rifles and won't go back...
I hunted buffalo last summer with 3 friends. We looked around and negotiated a price for an old hard bossed < 36 inch bull. The hunt actually ended up to be harder than a trophy hunt. All of us had many stalks and sat in the sticks many times. The difficult part was finding an old bull in our...
Hand loaded 185 grain gmx's in my wife's 338 Federal. I was using light bullets to try and reduce the recoil a little. The bullets performed flawlessly in Namibia, plains game. We found no bullet separation. The only recovered bullet expanded perfectly on a red heartabeest. On smaller game like...
Thanks for keeping the members informed. Hopefully your story will make others think twice! Glad you made it out safely. Great trophy and unbelievable Luck!!!!
Why create a problem for yourself. Fill all the holes with a lock so that when you come across the TSA agent that follows the letter of every rule you are covered and have no hassles. My goal is to make my flights as painless as possible. Travel is stressful enough. Why create problems?
Myself and my wife used a similar type of quad stick in Namibia last year. She outshot everyone in camp. She is 5 foot 2 inches and the sticks helped her support the rifle with incredible results. I thought they would be slow. The PH is fast to set them up directly on target. You are able to...
Great job with your pictures. I did a similar trip with one of Jimmy’s friends in reverse. Started in Etosha as our guns arrived a day after us. Then we finished the trip in Swakopmund. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
I shoot a 300H & H, so a little less powder. Mine preferred Reloader 22, so you might want to try a different powder. As some have already said, some barrels don't like TSX. If that is the bullet you really want, I would try another powder.
I've made one set of sticks with copper that I gave to a friend. While at the hardware store I noticed the internal dimensions of electrical conduit. The conduit is the best way to go by price. By using some sort of metal joint you are able to make the sticks a little more rigid, they will also...
Thanks Foxi. We just wanted to confirm that there have been no changes at Lufthansa. We have an email in with Lufthansa but figured we would have a faster response at AH.
Gentlemen,
I am heading to South Africa for a hunt in June 2018. There will be four of us and we will be travelling with firearms. I'm getting ready to close the deal on flights. My travel agent is pushing Qatar Airlines. The best flight money wise is Lufthansa. Several members of my group...
If you have scheduled a hunt I would contact the ph and find out what kind of sticks he uses and get something similar. Shooting from a tripod is easy but does have a learning curve. You mostly just need to practice and find out what works best for you. I started off with 3 sticks from my yard...
My wife used 185 grain gmx bullets hand loaded for her 338 federal T/C Encore on a plains game hunt. She shot a springbok and a red heartabeest. The bullet passed through the springbok and wasn't recovered. Her shot was a little aft but the animal dropped in its tracks. Everything in the body...
Yes, the sunsets were great at Acacia. Beautiful colors. I just saw Botha, Adrian, and Caroline for a couple of days before they headed to the shows in Texas. Can't wait to see them again.
