    I Finally did it

Well done SGW! It was good meeting you in camp and glad you had such a great first African safari. I’m still in awe about your fantastic kudu 58,5 Inches doesn’t come by every day…… I’ve hunted Africa for close to 30 years now…… lots of buff, 10 elephant, many otherdangerous animals and a...

Is the sako 85 safari a good rifle?

Hi all. I own 4 Sako 85 Safari Rifles: 375 H&H, 416 Rigby, 450Rigby, and 500 Jeff. I have used them on numerous dangerous game hunts and have killed at least 3-5 DG animals with each of them. They are extremely reliable rifles. Very accurate and very good looking too. None of them have the...

Who has hunted Dangerous Game with .600 nitro express..?

Jip! Also , the balistic data of earlier years suggest that the 600 NE was used at much lower velocities.... around 1750-1850f/s. Combined with the badly constructed bullets...... it would be a recipe for failure. I suppose pretty much the same as the stigma around 458 Winmag’s . With today’s...

Who has hunted Dangerous Game with .600 nitro express..?

I don’t know alot of ph’s..... but do know two who regularly carry their 600’s...... and a number of them who carry 577’s. , but I agree most don’t..... and I guess is because of the weight! I own a 500 NE and 500 Jeff, love them.... but when I go elephant hunting I rather use my 577 or...

Who has hunted Dangerous Game with .600 nitro express..?

IvW, I don’t necessarily agree with your statement about the second shot taking too long. I think it all depends on the design and balance of your rifle, as well as enough training with that particular rifle ..... with hunting loads. In terms of penetration, I would once again be hesitant to...

Who has hunted Dangerous Game with .600 nitro express..?

I have. I use a Verney Carron , Imperial model. I use handloads. 900gr solids @ 2060f/s. Its pretty effective, but you still need to hit the vitals. Shot 2 elephants with it so far.

    370 Sako Mag (9.3x66)

I own a 370 Sako Hunter. Shoot 250gr Barnes TSX’s @ 2560f/s and find it to be very capable, light on recoil and easy to reload. Haven’t used it on Dangerous game, but I’m pretty sure it will be more than adequate on buff, and cats. I recently read in Craig Boddington’s book, “Elephant “ that he...

    Verney Carron Double Rifles

After buying , shooting and hunting with my first Verney Carron in 577NE about 7 years ago, I fell in love with both VC and double rifles. I now have a few and am absolutely loving everything about them. I might be proven wrong someday, but I truly believe that they might also be a good...

Headed to Tajikistan Dec 18 Any last minute tips?

This is quite interesting. I have just booked myself a hunt in Kyrgystan for Nov 2020 for Ibex and Argali, and would like find out more about this. Didn’t know one could do that. Do the airlines and customs allow wet skins ? Thought they need to dried and processed..... which they were...

Any reason not to use a 350 grain .375 bullet for buffalo

I used 350gr TSX’s once on buffalo and will never again. The 350grainers are the solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. In fact, more often than not, they will fail to deliver the desired results. 350 grain monolithics are very long bullets and unless you have a rifle with a very tight twist...

Its an impressive calibre. Never was a fan of 9.3, till I used this one ,on a recent hunt. Was pleasantly surprised. recoil is not mentionable, while it's penetration was very impressive (with 250gr Barnes TSX).
