Western powders accurate 2460 they list I think 2192 from the 458 with 500 grain bullets and a 24 inch barrel.

What about the bullet seating plug? Sometimes dies come with a couple of them.

Are you loading a compressed load?

15 to 20 shots clean it. If you are out hunting and you get moisture in the barrel clean as soon as possible at least when you get in at the end of the day even if the barrel is stainless, because stainless will rust. To me, that is breaking in a barrel.

We all have little Idiosyncrasies, those screw holes would bother me. I think if I were going to spend 1250 I would just buy a new rifle. It may not be in the 300 H&H but you could get it in the 300 Winchester. I know the 300 H&H is a classic though.
