    Elephant hunting Paranoid

Have to get right mentally brother. If you've studied the anatomy, practiced with your rifle, and are capable physically....just go get the job done. Success starts with confidence, you've hunted some big stuff, don't let the elephant lore get to you.

    450/400 3" double as a stopping rifle?

I just think that things change as soon as you get the .50's. Something about that energy level when it hits a buff, they just seem to react differently, I think they get shocked from the energy transfer a little. At least it seems that way to me after being involved in a handful of buff...

    Loss of faith in gun

It happens, I've sold many guns over the years due to me feeling they just weren't right for me, easy enough to load for, or just didn't fit right,....some because I grew to think they were ugly (plastic guns)

80’s Vintage Zeiss Vs Leupold Vari-X iii

Vintage scopes ae cool but rarely hold up like the new stuff, and the eye relief usually doesn't compare at all.

Perfect Rifle for Eland and Lion

I have no experience with lion but have shot quite a few Eland, and all I can say is Eland are very large tough animals. I put a 350gr barnes solid into one last year from a 416 Rigby through ribs and into offside should bones, bullet didn't exit, it was 125 yard shot. I had solids in my gun...

Any 450/400 Double Rifles For Sale?

That Manton at Cabelas is a 3 1/4, could probably be had for less than the asking price, and I'm sure could get the job done. Have to be a handloader and put some time into getting components.....it would be a worthy project

I've had really good luck with Makore Safaris, primarily hunt with oldest brother Gary but have spent time with his brother Neil in camp and also hunted with their cousin Dougie, he was a fun guy to hunt with. Super good guys. Coutada 9 in Mozambique and Save in Zim. I think Gary is also on...

Dakota Traveler Safari 7mm Dakota/404 Dakota Value

You'll probably get between 8-10k, maybe a little more. Proprietary chamberings are not helping resale, and it has a really short LOP that's probably going to need spacers and a 1.25 NECG pad. Call and ask for Ward at Park West, he can look up the original build sheet and probably send you a copy.

500 NE - Hornady vs RCBS dies

I personally like Hornady dies better. Every set I have, which is many, seem to produce straighter resized brass using the button than Redding or RCBS. Just use a washer on the press and do the crimping last as a separate operation, or do what I did and buy a separate seater die and adjust the...

    500 Jeffery Club

This smithson 500j is one of the original rifles pictured in the gma website. I’d love to own that rifle but, 17k is still too rich for me on a rifle with 1 pipe. No doubt it’s a gem, same guy also has for sale a 404 that is a dandy. I think Those rifles may have belonged to that film...

Trying to replicate the Weatherby load

I would make sure the bolt lugs have a light coating of slick grease on them, also put a little grease on the bolt body by the bolt handle where it engages in the action body. This can help a lot on weatherby actions, if these areas get dry you may just be experiencing action binding. .....but...

Trying to replicate the Weatherby load

Odd. Has it ever been sticky before? Wipe Out is the only cleaner I would trust to try and eliminate all the carbon from teh neck of the chamber,...that would be worth a try. Do not use regular cleaner and any sort of chamber brush, you'll score the chamber.

What's up with todays' gun shops?

This has been a very interesting thread to follow. I walk in and out of gun shops every day for a living (gun manufacturer sales rep) and I had to come terms a long time ago that the guns were getting less and less interesting every year that goes by. That being said, they are technological...

    kruger or victoria falls

    Granite Mountain Actions

I have 2 GMA rifles, one I had the double square bridges machined for Talley by MNR Custom. Fantastically done and very functional. The other is german claw mounts built right into the bridges, I would never pay to have that added to a rifle, it would cost a fortune but I got that one...

Looking for ideas to improve front bead

Agree with above idea, or have a smith build a new one. You may want to push that one out and take measurements,.....NECG may come close to fitting, then you'd have a lot of options. They are relatively easy to fit with some filing, etc.

What's up with todays' gun shops?

    Oh Jeez, what happened?

I wouldn't leave in a gun slip, just leave it uncovered in your safe with light coat of G96, with good humidity protection inside your safe like a golden rod. It may clean up nicely with some oil and fine steel wool,....then go shoot it for cryin' out loud.

What will Big 5 hunting look like in 20 yrs?

I would predict that hunting cost will continue to rise, travel cost will continue to rise, and the ability to travel with a gun will get very difficult in the future. Will that affect a guy with a private jet and unlimited funds-NO. Will it affect normal guys-YES. As soon as I can't travel...

    Semi-Autos and Public Ranges

It's really annoying, if there are guys shooting Semi Autos I just stand my rifles up in the rack and wait for them to be done and leave. There isn't a better outfit to deal with. Had him do a few things for me so far and he was unbelievably helpful and timely. He strikes me as a talented gunmaker/smith that is on his way to becoming one of the best the USA has to offer. I would not hesitate to work with him or buy from him....
