Technically no, its elephant parts with no paperwork. But I’ve never been asked about a bracelet on my arm, just sayin’.

WSJ Magazine -- Tswalu Kalahari Reserve

Its a photographic camp and no hunting. Has a good reputation and is oft mentioned as a unique place to go in SA other then Kruger/APNR if one has been there and wants to see something different. Was also a featured on SafariLive’s drives for a while. I know someone who freelance guides there.

A very ugly high end slug gun

LOL, anyone who has shot a 12 ga slug gun will find the Savage 220 a significant departure in the recoil dept (also have a 20ga Deerslayer after selling the 12ga version) I’d have no problem to 150yds right out of the box with mine and I paid less then 400 bucks when they first came out. Dick’s...

    SOUTH AFRICA: Kuche Safaris

Thats pretty coherent, and not all that long. It’s pretty close I think, most (all) properties bring in some fresh genetics when fences are involved even if self sustaining. Get a chance check out some of the SA game magazines that are full of ads for animal sales. I think many operators are...

    Am I the only weirdo?

I have never been on a conference call or in a zoom meeting. On the other hand I have walked off a job site to hunt the surrounding property more than I can remember, so theres that.:)

Has anyone from the UK taken a rifle to Zimbabwe for a hunt?

When you claim bags in J’berg you get a transit permit (same form as any visiting hunter) and you use a Zim outfitter letter, and need to have airline ticketing details for your flights. I’ve stayed a few days in J’berg with an in transit permit no problem. I know someone (UK citizen) who does...

So what is it about hunting?

I dont have to answer emails, my phone, or make someone feel special about their job for a few weeks. Africa thing works really well for that as folks think you’re in some exotic location. Mean while I have better cell service anywhere in SA, Namibia, or Zimbabwe then I do at home. LOL.

    Hunting multiple buffalo

You can book double buffalo, happens all the time. Last guy in Zimbabwe I shared camp with shot 3 in the Save and another 2 at CMS (Dande) We both added a second buff at Dande as Buzz had quota. It was at elevated trophy fee because we both were doing 7 day hunts, and the local council gets a...

    What is your wallpaper?

You can download pics to a web hosting site; I use “Imgur”. Download supports iPad and then you clic on pic and it gives you options for link to cut and paste into a post here. Delete the pic there and it will disappear in the places where it was pasted, so I use it when selling something on...

    Hello from rural NYS

Beautiful rifle. There’s fair bit of folks here from NY; I live a bit north of Poughkeepsie and grew up outside Buffalo. I would guess more than a few never make it to Africa to hunt because of perceived dangers. Frankly the long airline travel is the worst of it.

Has anyone had taxidermy done in a different country than you hunted in Africa?

Interesting, I feel that way about buffalo mounts. Take a simple skull as many are over finished and look like a show cow.

US $$ in and out of Zimbabwe

I pretty much do the same; and ya‘ that’ll bother folks on forums, oh well. So here’s what I did in a couple trips to Zim, last in 21’. I declared the extra funds. I know what I’m dropping on day rate balance, tips, activities outside the hunting part of the trip and I figure I’m going to be...

Ancillary non-hunting ideas safari first timers should think about?

Where/when was pic taken? Theres a whole category of Fynbos plants that use poor sandy soils, thousands. That flower structure is unique and I’d guess that’ll be the key to ID. I know someone in a chat for a you tube live stream that’d know, I can try sending a DM to her given more specifics...

Ancillary non-hunting ideas safari first timers should think about?

“Roberts Bird Guide” is a standard for bird identification and they have an app. I dont worry about looking a bird up right there on hunting time and remember size, color, beak shape, spots/streaks, get a quick pic etc; and spend down time looking and making ID’s.Best in one trip is 142. My...

Giraffe - to mount or not to mount

Was offered a bull in Namibia on a hunt;on another property;as I had taken most of what was on quota for my hunt. I wanted to do this euro but got a less than enthusiastic response from the PH and he never mentioned going there again. Had a good hunt, but we didnt always mesh personality wise...

    Can of worms

Sell. And after 8 trips to Africa; screw that idea you need to start with plains game. Last 3 have been for elephant and/or buffalo and although I have seen a fair amount of days in the field and shot by a fair amount of plains game; doing it all again I would have done more buffalo and...

Safari Magazine - The Bullet & The Buffalo

Get that magazine from SCI and it doesn’t even make it out of the wrapper anymore, just dropped in the trash on the way back from the mailbox. That PH was my first in South Africa. They say your first safari is the most memorable. I went back the following year using 2 outfitters in two...

    Am I overthinking this?

Fwiw I have a 375 that has a bunch of trips behind it including dg a couple times. Also have some factory Remington safari a- frames where 8 out of 20 in a box never went bang. Never had a custom made load or my own loads fail ever. Full dent in primers too. I'm super confident in the rifle...

    Where to start

The quota is reduced some on Sengwe going forward as it’s being managed with Chirisa for game. (as per 2022 CMS news letter). CMS also sent out emails on that and the addition of a plains game property, hunting on Gokwe, taking on all of Nykasanga quota going forward. They be some busy boys.

    Pictures only

I disagree with the above post. A good PH and outfit will work just the same for you even if they know you aren’t doing taxidermy. Passed up several cape buffalo looking for a great bull and several representative plains game on last 2 hunts. Shipped nothing last three hunts.

Best 375 H&H factory ammunition for thin skinned game?

I think all the suggestions here are good. Shot well over a hundred plainsgame with 300 Aframes as thats the only soft I load; great performance from tiny ten to eland. what shoots well is what I’d go with.

Distinct sound of an African lion

I had a client that owned two males. He had made arrangements with a couple local dairy farms for bull calves and old cows. He used to go in the pen with them, I think he was nuts. Eventually both died and had them full mounted and on either side of his entryway when you walked in.

Looking for advice, what are the best outfitters in the eastern cape?

I'd be curious to how many hunters who are members on this particular forum have hunted with KMG, and how many positive reports are here now, 50? More? I've been following Africa specific forums since maybe 2008 or 9. I think maybe Charlton- McCallum might be the only other outfit that might...

Are removeable horns the actual horns?

They are fakes. They dont let you keep any real horns in Africa when you buy an auction hunt. They sell them to make up for the donation.

Why would an outfitters trophy fee list be higher?...

I have done a couple auction hunts. Always with some research; always with outfits that have more median trophy fees and have always added game and one time a few days to make my schedual work better. I would never bid where they are trying to make up their loss on donating by exaggerated trophy...

    Old African Maps?

In 2016 spent a few days in and around Windhoek and there is an antique/curio shop in the city who had a fair amount of maps for sale at reasonable prices, I regret not buying something. SCI 2023 photos and thoughts
